Around the Association

🐺 Timberwolves agree to two-year, $13 million deal with Jonathan Kuminga.

For those of you tapped into the Enjoy Newsletter all summer, you would’ve seen this predicted correctly by our very own Walker Carnathan a couple of weeks ago!

After trading Julius Randle to Brooklyn, the Timberwolves’ frontcourt depth had left a lot to be desired behind Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.

Jonathan Kuminga is an uber-athletic wing who can get some buckets with the ball in his hands. Kuminga had a rough end in Golden State, but showed some promise in the 16 games he played in Atlanta, including a 27-point debut against the Wizards!

At first glance, Kuminga seems like a great fit alongside LaMelo Ball, and we are likely to see a lob or two shared between them. While Shams reported that he’ll be starting, Kuminga’s best fit will likely be off the bench where he can act as a spark plug and focus on bucket getting. He has the positional versatility to play on the wing and act as a small-ball five if need be. While he’s never graded as a good defender, his athleticism, size, and youth (23) can leave some room for optimism.

The Kuminga signing places the Timberwolves into the second apron and they need to shed a few million dollars in salary to avoid any penalties, per Bobby Marks.

🏀 🏀 🏀

⚜️ Pelicans agree to two-year, $16 million deal with Bennedict Mathurin.

Enjoyers, the Pelicans have finally made a move! After a dormant free agency, Joe Dumars is adding another talented wing to the roster in Bennedict Mathurin. 🇨🇦

Mathurin has been a microwave off the bench for the majority of his four-year career, known for making difficult shots and getting to the line with ease.

It will be interesting to see where he fits in with a very deep Pelicans roster. With Dejounte Murray coming into the season healthy and another year of maturation from Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, New Orleans could make some noise. Let’s not forget Zion Williamson and friend of NOTB, Trey Murphy. The Pels enter contention as a top League Pass team in 2026-27.

Enjoy100 - Top 10 NBA Players

The support for the Enjoy100 has been overwhelming. A lot of you have been sharing your Top 10s with me and it’s awesome to see how different they look.

After over 400,000 responses from Enjoyers around the world, here’s how our community Top 10 is shaping up.

#10) Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers (2316 Elo)
Board Man is back on top! Leonard has proven time and time again that whenever he is on the court, his team has a chance. A two-way nightmare, Leonard pulled the Clippers up from a 6-21 record to a spot in the play-in tournament. Whether he’s in LA or Toronto, Leonard’s impact on the court will be felt.

#9) Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons (2377 Elo)
Cunningham was the North Star of a Pistons team that secured a 1-seed in the East last season, and manufactured a legendary 3-1 comeback in the first round of last year’s playoffs, earning himself an All-NBA First Team nod.

#8) Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics (2395 Elo)
After coming back from an Achilles tear late last season, Tatum is still one of the most feared players in the NBA. This will be Tatum’s first year in Boston without Jaylen Brown (#13), and we expect him to have an MVP-caliber season with the keys solely in his possession.

#7) Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks (2398 Elo)
The last time we saw Jalen Brunson, he was holding up both the Larry O’Brien trophy and the Bill Russell Finals MVP award. Coming off of a postseason to remember and bringing the Knicks to their first championship since 1973, Brunson is deservedly standing high amongst the NBA’s best.

#6) Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves (2488 Elo)
Human highlight reel, flamethrower, trash talker, Ant joins the list at 6. Edwards is coming off of a season where he had a career-high scoring average (28.8 PPG) and efficiency (61.7 TS%). While the end of his postseason was impacted by a knee injury, he’ll enter this season with something to prove!

#5) Giannis Antetokounmpo, Miami Heat (2639 Elo)
Around here is where we see a clear jump in Elo score. The former 2x MVP and 2019-20 DPOY has been a mainstay at the top of the league for the last decade. Now that the Greek Freak has taken his talents to South Beach, we’ll see how he continues to impact winning at the highest level with some new teammates.

#4) Luka Doncic, Los Angeles Lakers (2735 Elo)
Luka Magic! Doncic claimed his 6th All-NBA First Team nod in 8 years after another incredible season (33.5 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 8.3 APG). Entering the prime of his career, and looking like he’s in the best shape of his life, we are likely in store for another season with Doncic knocking on the MVP’s door.

🥉 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder (2816 Elo)
SGA is coming off back-to-back MVPs, four straight All-NBA First Team selections, and a championship in 2025 - it can be very hard to ask for anything more here. However, he finds himself in the #3 spot following an exit in the Western Conference finals to the San Antonio Spurs. SGA enters next season an early favorite for a third MVP and leads one of the NBA’s most talented squads.

🥈 Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs (2834 Elo)
At only 22 years old, Wembanyama is coming off of a season where he dethroned the league’s previous champion, and led the San Antonio Spurs to their first NBA Finals appearance in over a decade. He also put up mega numbers (25.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 3.1 APG, 3.1 BPG) in under 30 MPG. With another year of seasoning under his belt, and the sting of heartbreak in New York, Wemby is in for another season of dominance. Regardless, he is well on his way to becoming the NBA’s top dog. He’s just one spot away for now.

🥇 Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets (2906 Elo)
The Joker comes in as the NBA’s best, as rated by the Enjoy Basketball fanbase. The 3x MVP and 2023 NBA champion is coming off of back-to-back seasons averaging a triple-double (27.7 PPG, 12.9 RPG, 10.7 APG), and shows no signs of slowing down. Coming off a disappointing 2026 postseason and with Denver’s roster depleting year-over-year, how long can Jokic hold on to the crown?
