An Inside Scoopā€¦

Remember Myles Turner and Donte DiVincenzo's friendly little chat a few weeks ago? Well, we got the inside scoop on what they were actually sayingā€¦

Myles: Great shooting out there, Donte! If Scott Foster wasnā€™t right in between us, Iā€™d come over and let you know that only 1% of Enjoy Basketball readers have referred the newsletter to a friend.

Donte: Thatā€™s crazy! Donā€™t they know they can get free swag by sharing their custom referral link?

Myles: Not to mention bonus content, including Enjoy Basketballā€™s bi-weekly newsletter about the business, fashion, and off-the-court aspects of the hoops world called Out Of Bounds.

Donte: Duh! Anyways, I appreciate the heads upā€”Iā€™ll tell the Villanova guys to start sharing their links.

Thanks for the shout-out, Myles! All you have to do is share your custom link at the bottom of this email with someone who would Enjoy it and get rewarded! Track your progress by signing into your account and navigating to ā€œReferralsā€ā€”itā€™s that easy.

Dan Hurley turns down MASSIVE bag in LA to stay with UConn

What happens when you combine a former hooper turned podcaster, the head of a college basketball dynasty, and a Shams-Woj proxy war? The Lakersā€™ coaching search this offseason! Since weā€™ve been busy covering the Finals, letā€™s get you up to speed on this crazy front-office saga.

After Darvin Ham was dismissed at the beginning of May, rumors quickly began flying about his potential replacement and none were louder thanā€¦ LeBronā€™s podcast co-host? According to Shams, former Duke star and NBA vet turned media personality JJ Redick was in the driverā€™s seat to land the job, despite having zero coaching experience at any level.

Then, Woj came in with the steel chair and shocked everyone by introducing a surprise candidateā€”none other than back-to-back NCAA champion coach Dan Hurley. The Lakers apparently backed up the Brinkā€™s truck for UConnā€™s head honcho to the tune of 6 years and $70 million, a deal that immediately would have made him one of the NBAā€™s highest-paid coaches.

But just yesterday, Hurley turned the deal down. We respect itā€”turning down a chance to three-peat in the NCAA (an impossibly rare feat) would be crazy. The Lakers are now looking elsewhere, with Redick and former Hornets HC James Borrego as their new top options.

If you were Dan Hurley, would you have taken the Lakers offer? šŸ¤”

Jrue Holiday: A Star On and Off the Court

On-Court: The Ultimate Connector Piece

Is it really a coincidence that Jrue has been called an incredible fit at every single stop of his NBA career? Seriously, what team wouldnā€™t want an elite perimeter defender who can shoot 40% from deep and run the offense as a playmaker? Oh, and heā€™s also been named teammate of the year three times.

Holiday is like a versatile mix of spices that you can put on any dish. Just like good spices can bring out the hidden flavors in a meal, Jrueā€™s ability to defend beyond the arc, set up teammates, and consistently make smart cuts makes everyone else around him look better.

And nowhere has that been more apparent than in this series so far. Just look at his 26-point, 11-rebound performance in Game 2ā€”rather than slicing and dicing through defenders with insane dribble moves, he consistently got buckets by simply being in the right place at the right time, whether it was off of intelligent cuts, lurking in the dunker spot, or fading out beyond the arc when his defenderā€™s attention was elsewhere.

Off-Court: A Pillar of the Community

Just like he does for his teammates on the court, Jrue consistently elevates his community. Throughout his career, Holiday has given back at every opportunity, most notably in 2020 when he donated his entire $5 million salary in the bubble to start the Jrue & Lauren Holiday Social Impact Fund with his wife (and former absolute baller of a soccer player).

The fund was started to give grants to black-owned businesses and nonprofits in select cities, and itā€™s since grown to help hundreds of prospective business owners across the US. Jrue and Lauren havenā€™t slowed down at all either, as they continue to do incredible work out of their new home in Boston. They recently won the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian ESPY Award for community efforts. šŸ™

What Weā€™re Enjoying

Massive Ws for the W: It warms our hearts to say that women's hoops has undoubtedly never been in a better place, and now we have the numbers to prove it to the haters.

The WNBA just released a report earlier this week showing off absolutely insane growth across the boardā€”merch sales are up over 200%, primetime games are cracking a million viewers like itā€™s nothing, and attendance is the highest itā€™s been in 26 years.
