Out of Bounds, Vol. 61

Steph's new shoes and some more "1 gorilla vs. 100 men" debates.

Golden State and Houston’s Game 7 tonight brings us back to 2018, when Kevin Durant was a Warrior, Chris Paul was a Rocket, and LeBron James did unspeakable things to the city of Toronto. What a year.

👟 Steph Curry’s Best Shoe Yet?

In case you haven’t heard, Steph Curry has a game tonight. A Game 7, in fact. It’s kinda a big deal.

Another big deal: he just released his newest shoe, the Curry Brand Series 7! It’s probably our favorite shoe of his ever.

It looks and feels like a super-powered running shoe—with new high-tech foam, it’s reportedly the lightest shoe the Baby Faced Assassin has ever worn.

Chasing after Chef Curry for 35 minutes a night would already make the best marathon runner see stars, and now his game might just be quicker than Draymond getting a tech (or, more recently, a flagrant).

Is this Curry's best shoe ever?

🤔 Interesting “Who Would Win” Scenarios

Okay so… we’re not gonna ask the 100 men vs 1 gorilla question. That discourse is approaching Jordan vs. LeBron levels of tired out, and it's only been ~72 hours.

But we WILL give you a few other scenarios:

Could 10 Chris Pauls guard 1 Giannis Antetokounmpo?

We think in the halfcourt, yes—20 hands grabbing for the ball would be too disruptive. But if Giannis just charges in transition, it’ll result in 2 points and 10 CP3s on the ground (6 got pushed, 4 flopped). If you want to know what Kenny thinks, he gave his answer on Numbers on the Board

Could 5 Shaquille O’Neals make more free throws in 10 minutes than 1 Steph Curry?

We’re divided on this one, but we think yes. Shaq was a career 53% free throw shooter, so assuming he and his 4 clones are all shooting on different baskets, each attempt would result in ~2.5 points—compared to ~0.9 points per shot for the 91%-shooting Curry.

The only variables here are speed and fatigue. Lakers Shaq or, god forbid, Celtics Shaq might be sucking wind by minute six of shooting, and Wardell has made a career of precise shooting when the average man would be keeling over from exhaustion.

🙏 Rome’s Interfaith Basketball Camp

In the least likely crossover since Dennis Rodman kicked it with Kim Jong Un, Enes Kanter Freedom went on CNN to discuss his relationship with the late Pope Francis, and it was surprisingly wholesome.

The former rebounding machine and back-to-the-basket center was moved by Pope Francis’ message of hope, acceptance, and unity. After meeting the Pope, Kanter was motivated to start a basketball camp in Rome, inviting Christian, Muslim, and Jewish children to play together as a means of fostering inter-religious friendship. Check out the interview here! ⬇️

Kanter reflected on how the kids stuck to themselves at the beginning, but after getting paired up in teams, playing together, and forging chemistry on the court, they were close friends by the end and stayed in touch well the camp ended.

One of the many reasons we Enjoy Basketball! 💙🧡
