The winner of game 5 in a 2-2 series goes on to win the series 82% of the time.
Safe to say, the Spurs’ win last night was a big one.

Game Recaps
Spurs respond in big way in 126-97 game 5 victory to take 3-2 series lead over Minnesota
In May 2023, the Spurs held the number one pick in the draft. In May 2026, that same number one pick has the franchise just one win away from the Western Conference Finals. What a difference three years makes.
Going into game five, it was unclear if Victor Wembanyama was going to be eligible to play in this one after his elbow on Naz Reid in the first half of game four. Well, Wemby was cleared by the league to play….and his impact was felt.
The two-way superstar started off the game on FIRE, scoring 16 of his 27 points in the opening quarter. He also was a beast on the glass, ending with 17 rebounds to go along with three blocks. San Antonio dominated for the majority of the game, and had five other players score 12 points or more in the win, including Keldon Johnson (21 PTS in 22 Mins), Stephon Castle (17 PTS, 8/11 FG) and De’Aaron Fox (18 PTS, 5 AST). 😎
Minnesota fell behind early in this one, and will now have to win two games in a row if they want to win this series and advance to their third straight WCF. It was difficult for the Wolves to get into any rhythm offensively, as they shot just 38% from the field for the game.
Game six of this series falls on Friday night. Will we be back in Texas for a game 7, or will Wemby and the Spurs close the series out? We’ll find out soon enough….

OKC completes sweep of Lakers, advance to West Finals in 115-110 Victory
Since 2018, not one defending champion has made it back to the conference finals. It’s only fitting that this OKC Thunder team is the team to break that streak.
So far in these playoffs, OKC has remained perfect. Eight games, eight wins….and it’s like they’ve barely even broken a sweat.
Monday night was the closest they’ve been to dropping a game this postseason though, with the game hanging in the balance in the final minute of regulation. Chet Holmgren (16 PTS, 9 REB) converted on a go-ahead dunk, and OKC got the stop on the other end after LeBron James (24 PTS, 14 REB) missed a potential bucket to take the lead back.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had his best game of the series, pouring in 35 points on 11/22 from the floor, and it was another standout performance from Ajay Mitchell, who dropped a smooth 28 of his own. One thing about this OKC team, they just never run out of guys.
While OKC advances, the Lakers’ season is over. With their season wrapped up, the focus now shifts to the future of LeBron, and where (or if) he’ll be playing basketball next season. Bron, who just completed year 23 in the league, is a free agent this summer and has hinted at a possibility of retirement. 🤔
While LA shifts gears to the offseason, OKC awaits the winner of SAS/MIN in the western conference finals…

Elsewhere around the NBA:
We’re four games into Pistons-Cavs, and the series has yet to officially begin. Home teams are 4-0 in this series so far, including the Cavs huge 112-103 game 4 win on Monday to even up the series at 2-2. This game had a wild second half the included a 25-0 run from Cleveland that blew the game wide open, and an NBA-record breaking 39 points in the second half from Donovan Mitchell (43 PTS). This series is now a best of three, with a pivotal game five back in Detroit later tonight. Buckle up, the rest of this series is going to be CINEMA. 🍿

Around the Association
Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke Passes Away at age 29
Tuesday was an absolutely heartbreaking day in the NBA world.
Brandon Clarke, the former first round pick in the 2019 draft who spent his entire career with the Grizzlies, sadly passed away on Tuesday.
It’s a devastating loss for the NBA community. On the court, Brandon Clarke was a staple core piece on the 2020s Grizzlies teams that won several playoff series, and his tenacious effort on both sides of the ball gave Memphis a boost every time he was out there on the court.
While he was very impactful on the court, his work off the court was even more impressive. Clarke devoted countless hours into the Memphis community, launching his own foundation and running events with the children of Memphis, making a lasting impact on the city that welcomed him with open arms when he entered the NBA.
Brandon Clarke was much, much more than just a basketball player. He was a great teammate, friend, and son. He will be incredibly missed.
Rest in Peace, Brandon Clarke.

Former NBA player Jason Collins Passes Away at age 47 from Brain Cancer
Jason Collins, one of the most courageous athletes in the history of pro sports, passed away Tuesday afternoon.
Collins played 13 seasons in the NBA, but he is most remembered for his bravery off the court. In 2013, he became the first active NBA player to openly come out as gay. His willingness to be vulnerable was and still is truly admirable, as he became an inspiration to so many people who were afraid to be who they truly are.
Back in December, Collins publicly revealed his stage 4 brain cancer diagnosis and unfortunately lost the battle on Tuesday. He fought as hard as he could to beat it, and his fight is as strong as the person he was.
The world lost a tremendous human being yesterday. Rest in Peace, Jason Collins.
