All-Star Weekend Preview

The time has finally come! After years of speculation and talk amongst fans online, we’ve got a USA vs. World format in the NBA All-Star Game. But as you very well may know, that’s not the only twist Adam Silver threw in there this year.

Three teams—the U.S.’s ā€œStarsā€ and ā€œStripesā€ teams plus the ā€œWorldā€ team—will compete in a round-robin mini-tournament featuring four 12-minute games, with the top two teams advancing to the All-Star Championship.

See the full rosters below:

  • Team USA Stars: Scottie Barnes, Devin Booker, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Anthony Edwards, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Johnson, Tyrese Maxey (Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff)

  • Team USA Stripes: Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Stephen Curry*, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, Brandon Ingram, De’Aaron Fox (Coach: Mitch Johnson)

  • Team World: Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander*, Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo*, Deni Avdija, Pascal Siakam, Karl-Anthony Towns, Alperen Sengun, Norman Powell (Coach: Darko Rajaković)

* = injured, not playing

The All-Star Game—or, really, All-Star Tournament—will be on Sunday night after the G League Next Up Game in the afternoon. But before that, there’s plenty of other action this weekend:

Tonight: Celebrity All-Star Game, Rising Stars, NBA HBCU Classic

The weekend starts with the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game tonight at 7 ET at the Kia Forum. Two star-studded celebrity squads featuring the likes of Keegan-Michael Key, Shams Charania, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Simu Liu, Mat Ishbia, and Mustard will hit the court for a fun showcase.

Right after comes the Rising Stars Challenge, showcasing the league’s brightest young talent. Teams were drafted by honorary coaches Carmelo Anthony, Tracy McGrady, Austin Rivers, and Vince Carter, with headliners like rookies Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and VJ Edgecombe set to square off alongside fellow first- and second-year standouts—check out the full rosters here.

Late tonight, the NBA HBCU Classic highlights college pride and tradition as Hampton University battles North Carolina A&T State University, celebrating HBCU basketball on the All-Star stage!

All-Star Saturday: Three-Point Shootout, Shooting Stars, and Slam Dunk Contest

Tomorrow’s festivities return to the Intuit Dome for All-Star Saturday, starting with the Three-Point Contest and a loaded lineup of participants—Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Bobby Portis Jr., Norman Powell, and Kon Knueppel—competing to see who’s the weekend’s deadliest from deep.

Next up is the Shooting Stars competition, a team shooting event blending current stars and legends that the NBA is bringing back after a decade-long hiatus. The squads are Team All-Star, with Scottie Barnes, Chet Holmgren, and Richard Hamilton; Team Knicks, featuring Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Allan Houston; Team Cameron, with Jalen Johnson, Kon Knueppel, and Corey Maggette; and Team Harper, pairing Ron Harper Sr. with sons Dylan and Ron Jr.

Closing out Saturday night is the Slam Dunk Contest, where Jase Richardson, Carter Bryant, Jaxson Hayes, and Keshad Johnson will battle for supremacy in one of the weekend’s most anticipated showcases.

Earlier This Week…

  • Donovan Mitchell (30 PTS, 5 AST) was impressive, but it was really Sam Merrill’s three-point explosion (32 PTS, 9-10 3PT) that pushed Cleveland over Washington 138-113. Seven Wizards scored in double figures, led by Kyshawn George (17 PTS), but depth wasn’t enough to overtake the new-look Cavs.

  • On a night when Anthony Edwards (14 PTS) only took ten shots, Julius Randle (41 PTS, 7 REB) went off and led the Wolves to a wire-to-wire 133-109 win over Portland on Wednesday. Jrue Holiday led the Blazers in scoring with 23, but Minnesota was up by double-digits in the second quarter and never looked back.

  • No Giannis? No problem. The new guys off the bench—Cam Thomas (34 PTS) and Ousmane Dieng (17 PTS, 5-8 3PT)—got the job done over the Desmond Bane (31 PTS, 5 AST) Magic and powered Milwaukee to a 116-108 win. Bane and the Magic led for pretty much the entire first half, but Thomas took over.

  • BIG ups to Jose Alvarado (26 PTS) off the bench! The recent acquisition was the biggest spark in the Knicks’ 138-89 blowout win over Philly. Tyrese Maxey (32 PTS) was the long bright spot for the Sixers, but MarJon Beauchamp (8 PTS) hit a few threes in just his second game for Philadelphia!

  • The Houston Rockets put together a great three quarters of basketball, but Kawhi Leonard (19 4Q PTS) had something to say about that. Leonard led the Clippers on a 15-point comeback and hit the game-winner to steal the 105-102 win from Kevin Durant (21 PTS, 8 REB, 6 AST) and the Rockets in Houston.
