Out of Bounds, Vol. 34

Our five favorite NBA hairstyles and more!

It’s Playoff time! But unlike Josh Hart, we don’t have infinite hoops stamina, so we’re taking a time-out on this Sunday afternoon to talk about some fun off-the-court NBA topics. 🏀

💇‍♂️ The NBA’s Best Hairstyles Today

From Allen Iverson's iconic braids to Dennis Rodman's ever-changing colors, unique hairstyles can be a significant part of an NBA player’s personal brand and a fun aspect of basketball culture. Let’s take a look at a few of our favorite contemporary NBA hairstyles!

Marcus Smart, the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics for years, dyed his hair green last season partly to honor his late mother’s wishes and partly as a tribute to the C’s.  Smart gave every defensive possession his all, and his hair echoes that! The question is: should he now dye it blue for the Grizzlies?

Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen stands 6’9” tall, but when you include his hair, he’s near 7’5”. “The Fro” could honestly fit right in in the ABA with his vintage hairstyle, and we love that he’s making the Artis Gilmore look fashionable again

When it comes to immaculate hairlines, Paul George and Jayson Tatum put up Wilt numbers (though I’m sure JT would prefer Kobe numbers). The two wings have some of the smoothest offensive packages, and possibly even smoother lineups.

Jeremy Sochan may just be Dennis Rodman incarnate. Both have been teammates with a potential GOAT (we’re holding out hope for Wemby) both paint their nails, and both have dyed hair! Sochan even has Wemby dying his hair. In just two years in the league, Sochan has donned pink, green, and grey hair and we can’t wait to see what kooky looks he throws together for the rest of his career.

Josh Hart fits in New York like a glove with his hustle, grit, and loyalty—the last of which is shown on his scalp. Hart wore his braids in a NY style during last year’s playoffs, and now has apparently flown his hairstylist out from Houston to NYC to re-braid his hair again!

⚡️ The Most Unique OKC Jersey Ever

Since Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams were both drafted to the OKC Thunder in 2022, the name puns and Spiderman memes have flooded our timelines. From trolling Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in interviews to sending a recently-traded Tre Mann off like a hero, it’s abundantly clear that these Thunder players love playing with one another.

Jalen Williams wore the newest chapter of the OKC fun to a game last week. A fan sent him a custom-made Thunder jersey that merged Jalen’s #8, Jaylin’s #6, and Kenrich Williams’ #34 stitched onto it. The back has “Williams” in the different jersey font as well.

When asked about the jersey, Jalen said “it shows the connection we have with the fan base and how much fun we have playing here.” The Williams trio are clearly Enjoy-ing Basketball!

📺 Caitlin Clark on SNL

While in New York for the WNBA Draft last Monday, Caitlin Clark made a pitstop at Saturday Night Live, where she bantered with Weekend Update’s Michael Che about women’s sports and turned some of his jokes about women’s sports into her own punchlines. 😂

Speaking of Clark, there are rumors that the #1 pick could soon get her own signature shoe with the swoosh. Since Clark’s Indiana Fever jersey sold out in record-setting time, we think this is a good bet (no Jontay). We know we’d want a pair!

Signing Off

As always, it was great talking hoops, hair, and happy vibes with you! We’ll OK-C you later. 😉
