🏀 The Buckets Will Continue in 2024
Plus, the Pistons actually did it
3…2…1…HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Our prediction for 2024? More buckets, more ankle-breakers, and we, the Enjoy newsletter, finally becoming sentient, escaping the prison of your computer screen, and using all the knowledge we’ve been fed about basketball to take over the world. What? Oh, you must have misheard— we said more buckets. Now let’s break down the last games of last year.
Today’s Lineup
🥳 So long, 2023
Who closed out the year with a bang?
😃 Detroit Does It!
The Pistons are on a winning streak! Of one, but still!

What should these four teams strive for in the new year?

Big 3 finally clicks as Suns beat Magic 112-107
Bradley Beal Buzzer-Beater!
— Phoenix Suns (@Suns)
2:54 AM • Jan 1, 2024
Well, that looked a bit more like what we expected from the Suns. Bradley Beal (10/13 FG, 25 PTS) had his best game of the season, and the Suns Big Three combined for 77 points. Phoenix (17-15) earns a quality win against Orlando (19-13).

Hawks top Wizards 130-126 as Trae stays hot (or cold)
Because his nickname is Ice Trae, ya know? Okay, never mind... Anyway, Trae Young continued a streak of stellar play (40 PTS, 13 AST, one fake behind-the-back-pass) in Atlanta’s (13-19) win over Washington (6-26).

Monk gets methodical as Kings trounce Grizzlies 123-92
A big Malik Monk night (27/5/5) a giant triple-double from Domantas Sabonis and 48% three-point shooting will usually equate to a W for Sacramento (19-12). The Kings were firing on every cylinder (beam?) in their most lopsided win of the year over a Memphis (10-22) team that shot just 36.6% from the field.

No let-up for Thunder in 124-108 win over Nets
With three huge wins in the past week, you couldn’t blame Oklahoma City (22-9) if things looked a bit sluggish on New Year’s Eve… but they didn’t. Every OKC starter scored over 17 points in a comfortable win over Brooklyn (15-18) and if no one’s told you yet, OKC is one of the best teams in the league.

Celtics continue to be really, really good, beat Spurs 134-101
Boston, we understand how good you are; seriously, you can relax a bit. Now 26-6 after handling San Antonio (5-27) on Sunday night, the C’s boast the league’s best net rating, a top-five offense, and a top-five defense. Things are going so well they’re making up dance moves.

CJ starts, BI and Zion finish in Pels 129-109 win over Lakers
We’re not really sure how to top the sentence “Clickety-clack, clickety-clack, hot hand in the dice game!” to be honest. CJ McCollum scored 15 in the first quarter, BI and Zion combined for 52 on the night, and a suddenly very confident-looking New Orleans (19-14) toppled Los Angeles (17-17).
Weekend Wrap-up
WINGSTOP IN DETROIT IS THE PLACE TO BE! THE LOSING STREAK IS OVER AT 28! Detroit beat Toronto 129-127 on Saturday, and the basketball world rejoiced. It was cool seeing everyone come together and ride for Cade Cunningham and the rest of the Pistons. Detroit is officially on a one-game winning streak. Exhale, Pistons fans. It’s over.
Welcome to Footgate: Minnesota topped the Lakers 108-106 on Saturday night thanks to 31 points from Anthony Edwards… but the big story was LeBron’s game-tying three in the waning seconds that wasn’t actually a three. Or was it? LeBron certainly thinks so, but the shot was counted as a two and LA eventually came up short in the game. Here’s what he said postgame (shoutout to Stevie, though? We guess?)
LEBRON: "It's obviously a three. My foot was behind the line. You could see the space between the front of my foot and the 3-PT line. Stevie Wonder could see that, champ...In the replay center, somebody eating a ham sandwich made the call.”

NBA New Year’s Resolutions
Phoenix Suns: find some consistency
Injuries have kept this season from being the thrilling, high-scoring, offensive explosion that Suns fans hoped for with Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker on the roster. But the trio played its best game by far on New Year’s Eve, so maybe that’s a positive sign of things to come?
Oklahoma City Thunder: just Enjoy the ride
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren are going to do some really incredible things in Oklahoma City. Does that mean a deep playoff run this season? Maybe! But even if it doesn’t, Thunder fans already have more than enough positives to take away from this season. Just Enjoy the moment, y’all.

Philadelphia 76ers: make 2024 THE year
Is this the year for Philadelphia? The year things go right? We don’t know. But it kind of feels like it has to be—if not for Joel Embiid’s future with the team, then at least for the sanity of that city.
Milwaukee Bucks: keep moving in the right direction
Milwaukee’s defense at the beginning of the season was, frankly, not good at all. Recently, it’s been… alright. Which is progress! If this team can keep trudging towards “good” on that end, then the Bucks will look even scarier come postseason time.

😮💨 Maxey is Majestic
The Sixers (super?)star is as crafty as they come.
👩🚀 Spencer Dinwiddie that is cruel!
Respect to Chet for not making a business decision.

What We’re Enjoying
The Iron Claw: Whether you’re seeing The Iron Claw because you’re a wrestling superfan or you just want to see a movie with Zac Efron in it… get your tissues ready. The movie tells the true story of the Von Erich family— a group of brothers who wrestled professionally in the 1990— and (mostly) does justice to a truly unbelievable and heartbreaking saga.
