Cavaliers blow the doors off the Garden in 118-94 beatdown of Boston

Two nights after getting blown out in Boston, the Cavaliers returned the favor by sending Celtics fans streaming to the exits halfway through the 4th.

And to think it started off relatively promising. The C’s held an 8-point lead late in the 2nd quarter behind some sharp shooting from Al Horford and a solid 16 from Jayson Tatum.

Then, like a ticking time bomb, Donovan Mitchell exploded to life in the 3rd. After spending most of the first half setting up his teammates (particularly Evan Mobley Spida took the “fine, I’ll do it myself” approach, dropping 23 points in 13 minutes, capped off with back-to-back incredibly smooth lays to put the game practically out of reach.

Boston’s perimeter shooters simply couldn’t get it going, and they’ll need to figure it out quickly with two straight games in Cleveland coming up fast.

ThreeJ Washington leads Mavericks to 119-110 victory in OKC

All credit to the Thunder for refusing to go away down the stretch, but the Mavs role players were simply allergic to missing timely shots last night. Whether it was Josh Green spotting up in the corner or Tim Hardaway Jr. coming through in the clutch, someone on Dallas always seemed to be in the right place at the right time splash in a much-needed trey.

Even though Luka Doncic was his usual spectacular self (albeit a bit hobbled) and Kyrie Irving left his mark all over the game with his playmaking and defense despite only dropping nine points, the undisputed MVP of last night’s game was without a doubt PJ Washington. The former Hornet was on an all-time heater, burying seven threes and making things happen on both ends of the court.

SGA stuffed from the stat sheet with 33, 12 and 8, but he’ll need some of his other young co-stars to step up if OKC want to make their first conference finals appearance of the post-KD

Brunson shines in 2nd half, Knicks take game 2 over Pacers 130-121

Jalen Brunson’s 40+ point streak might be over, but I’m sure he’ll take a 24-point second half and a game-two W as compensation.

This one started out super promising for the Pacers, who looked like they’d be waltzing out of MSG with a W heading into halftime with a 10-point lead despite a great first half from OG Anunoby. While Tyrese Haliburton’s newfound offensive aggression put a spring in Indy’s step, it was really the bench unit that made things happen, particularly TJ McConnell and Obi Toppin.

But when it came down to the starters facing off in crunch time, the Knicks put their foot on the gas and never let up. Donte DiVincenzo buried multiple massive threes, and Brunson put it away with a delectable assortment of tuff buckets.

Most Valuable Player: Nikola Jokic (DEN)

Stats: 26.4 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 9.0 APG, 10.6 VORP (7th All-Time)

From the 41st pick in the draft to 3 MVPs in 4 years, Nikola Jokic is running laps around the haters and doubters at this point.

Although it was a tight three-way race between Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic right up until the end of the season, Big Honey ended up taking the award fairly convincingly, snagging 79 of a possible 100 first-place votes.

Despite wowing us countless times over the years, Jokic showed us that it’s still possible to improve on perfection. Whether it was leading the Nuggets to their highest-ever win total in the NBA, or setting a career-low in turnover percentage in his 9th NBA season, the reigning champ is still the same ever-reliable seven-foot Serbian supercomputer that he’s always been.

Charles Lee ➡️ Charlotte

For a team that hasn’t won a playoff series in 22 years, what better hire than a guy who’s been in the playoff practically every year as a coach?

A former Mike Budenholzer disciple, Lee has been on the staff of some seriously sweet squads over the years, including the 60-win 2014-15 Hawks, the Bucks 2021 championship team, and as the lead assistant for Joe Mazzula and the Celtics this season.

Phoenix 👋 Frank Vogel

After a 49-33 season and a sweep at the hands of the Timberwolves, Frank Vogel is packing his bags.

While the KD-Booker-Beal big three certainly packs an offensive punch, Vogel’s defensive-minded approach never really seemed to work as it did at times in LA and Indiana. With Durant, rapidly approaching the end of his career, this will be a huge coaching decision for the Sun’s top brass.

Who should be the Suns next Head Coach? 🤔
