What does the Siakam trade mean for the Pacers and Raptors?

Last Night’s Action

Jalen Brunson’s Knicks take down Wizards 113-109

Have a game, JB! The Knicks point guard poured in a 40-piece to keep climbing the Knicks’ leaderboards in just his second season in the Big Apple. The game itself was close the whole way, but New York (25-170 pulled it off thanks in part to Isaiah Hartenstein’s dominance (17 REB) on the glass. Wizards (7-33) fans, at least Marvin Bagley (20 PTS, 11 REB) looked as comfortable as ever in his new threads!

Bulls squeeze out 116-110 win over Raptors in the 6ix

A big Alex Caruso three and a Coby White drive-to-the-basket-and-get-it-done layup sealed this one for Chicago (20-23) in the final minutes, who ended the game on a 13-3 run. Scottie Barnes (31 PTS, 7 REB, 6 AST) had an incredible game, but a costly fourth quarter turnover took away Toronto’s (16-26) chances of coming back. We’re just glad that Bruce Brown got his jersey number all figured out… 😂

Timberwolves take down depleted Grizzlies, 118-103

Given that the Grizzlies (15-26) were without Ja Morant, Steven Adams, Marcus Smart, and Desmond Bane, this game was a lot closer than many folks expected. But Anthony Edwards (28 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST) keeps defying gravity and the Wolves (30-11) exploded in the fourth quarter, thanks in part to the international multimedia sensation that is Naz Reid (20 PTS). This comparison is crazy, but we love the attitude.

NAZ REID.

Kings suffer nail-biting 126-121 loss to Pacers

The Kings (23-18) got another record-setting double-double from Domantas Sabonis, and a career-high 31 points from “Red Velvet” Kevin Huerter was nice, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Pacers (24-17) two double-doubles of their own. TJ McConnell (20 PTS, 10 AST) passed the ball beautifully and Jalen Smith (17 PTS, 13 REB) controlled the boards in this game, which came down to a free-throw battle in the final seconds.

J-Dub leads Thunder past Jazz 134-129

Jalen Williams is one of the most efficient players in the league, and it showed last night. His 27 points on 11/14 from the field and 4/5 from three was juuuust enough to stop Utah (22-21), who benefitted from Certified Jazz Legend Collin Sexton’s season-high 31 PTS. Even so, it was a huge block from Chet Holmgren with 12 seconds left in the game that put this one away for OKC (28-13).

Wednesday Night Notes

Check out all the box scores from Wednesday night here, and read up on the major moments you missed down below ⬇️

  • Dejounte Murray! Buzzer-beater! The Baby Boy (?) capped off his great performance (26 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST) with a game-winning middy to seal the match for Atlanta, 106-104.

  • Anfernee Simons! Buzzer-beater! (Is there an echo in here?) Thanks to him, the Blazers floated their way to a 105-103 win against the Nets in Portland. Not to mention Jerami Grant (30 PTS, 8 REB), whose name keeps finding its way into trade rumors…

  • The Lakers dominated the Mavericks thanks to three players scoring 25+, and a near triple-double from Anthony Davis (28 PTS, 12 REB, 9 AST). LA survived a real triple-double from Luka Doncic (22 PTS, 13 REB, 10 AST).

  • The Pelicans set a franchise record for three-pointers made in a game (25) in their 20-point win over the Hornets. Brandon Ingram’s triple-double (28 PTS, 10 REB, 10 AST) didn’t hurt either.

Pascal Siakam Traded to Indiana

Indiana Pacers receive: Pascal Siakam and a 2024 second-round pick via NOP

Toronto Raptors receive: Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, Kira Lewis Jr (via NOP), a 2024 first-round pick via IND, a 2024 first-round pick via UTA/HOU/LAC/OKC, and a 2026 first-round pick via IND (top-four protected)

The first domino of the 2024 trade season has fallen! The Pacers are adding 2X All-Star, former MIP, and NBA Champion Pascal Siakam to their roster, and the forward is reportedly excited to be in Indiana, where he’s expected to work out a contract extension in the near future.

We don’t have to tell you that Spicy P is a great addition to an already potent Indiana offense. He’s one of the best transition players in the league, so to pair him up with an incredible passer (and scorer) in Tyrese Haliburton will be beautiful to watch. Are the Pacers now in ECF contention? 💪

Meanwhile, the Raptors continue to turn themselves upside-down as they liquify their big assets for draft capital and young players. Scottie Barnes, new additions RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, and three (!!!) 2024 first-round picks certainly set Toronto up for big things to come. 👀
