Embiid gets PAID!

When you think Philly basketball, you think Joel Embiid—there’s a reason his nickname is “The Process.” And now, Philly fans can rest easy knowing he’s around for the long haul.

Over the weekend, Embiid inked a new 3-year $192.9 million extension with the Sixers that keeps him in the City of Brotherly Love through 2029. After years of rumors surrounding a potential departure by the 2023 MVP, we’re glad to see him re-up on his commitment to Philly and continue his quest to lead them to the top.

Embiid’s deal also shows just how lucrative big time contracts have become. Ten years ago, Kobe Bryant was the highest paid player in the league with an annual salary of $23.5 million. Now, elite players like Joel are making almost triple that.

It’s great to see stars rewarded for their play. 😎

Carmelo Anthony had one of the most iconic college careers in history, leading Syracuse to a national championship in 2003 and being named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player. Two decades later, Melo’s son is now making his college decision— but without any pressure from dad.

Kiyan Anthony named the Orange as a finalist for his recruitment, but says that Melo hasn’t pushed him to join his alma mater: “He never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym.”

While it would be dope to see Kiyan carry on his father’s legacy, it’s even cooler to see Melo let his son forge his own path. Whatever Kiyan decides, we can’t wait to see another Anthony in college hoops! Stay Me7o!

Player Spotlight: Brandon Podziemski

After Klay Thompson’s departure from Golden State this offseason, Steph Curry will have a new regular backcourt partner for the first time since 2010. And the Dubs have several strong candidates to fill that role, one of the most intriguing being second-year stud Brandon Podziemski.

Podziemski fought hard to achieve his NBA dreams. After a disappointing first season at Illinois, he transferred to Santa Clara and found immediate success while averaging 19.9 PPG for the Broncos. That performance made him a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, where he was selected by Golden State.

“Air Podz” immediately carved out a role for himself as a rookie with the Warriors, making an impact as a crafty scorer and a plus shooter. Arguably his best game as a rookie came on Valentine’s Day 2024, when he scored a career-high 25 points on 5/5 shooting from three against the Clippers.

Podziemski was selected to the 2024 All-Rookie First Team and is now is set to make an even bigger name for himself at the professional level in an increased role. Only up from here! 🚀
