Some MLB picks today! We think Cory Seager (TEX) will have a big day at the plate against the struggling Joey Wentz (DET), Elly De La Cruz (CIN) will continue his incredible hot streak, and Ozzie Albies (ATL) will underperform against Kenta Maeda (MIN). Are you riding with us?

We have a trade to announce…

Utah Jazz: John Collins

Utah is adding 25-year-old John “The Baptist” Collins to their gauntlet of young talent in the frontcourt. Their roster also features Finnish legend Lauri Markkanen, Rudy Gobert impressionist Walker Kessler, and 2023 ninth overall pick Taylor Hendricks. Hopefully there are plenty of minutes to go around!

Atlanta Hawks: Rudy Gay and a future second-round pick

The Hawks were set to pay Collins $78 million over the next three seasons. That’s a lot of money for a team that already shed Kevin “Red Velvet” Huerter’s contract for cap concerns a season ago.

But yeah, Atlanta dumped a guy who’s been on the trade block for seemingly FOREVER in exchange for a 36-year-old Rudy Gay and a second round pick. Why do that? Well, the swap creates a $25.3 million trade exception for the Hawks, which is the largest such exception in the NBA. This means they’ll get to make a trade with lopsided salary values sometime in the next year, so keep an eye out for more movement in and out of Atlanta.

2023 FIBA World Cup Roster

The What 🥇 This year’s FIBA World Cup will be played in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. The tournament will serve as qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, so the stakes couldn’t be higher!

The Who 🏀 11 of the USA’s 12 roster spots have been filled, and here’s where the roster stands as of now:

  • Guards: Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Jalen Brunson, Austin Reaves

  • Forwards: Brandon Ingram, Jaren Jackson Jr, Mikal Bridges, Paolo Banchero, Cam Johnson

  • Centers: Bobby Portis, Walker Kessler

Reply to this email with who you think the last spot should go to! If it was up to us (and time travel was possible), we’d choose 2008 LeBron.

The Vibes 😎 The roster is young, that’s for sure. The team only has three combined All-Star appearances. And Paolo Banchero got criticized by the Italian Basketball Federation President for switching up from the tricolor 🇮🇹 to the stars and stripes 🇺🇸.

But positive vibes persist. Personally, we think Jaren Jackson Jr. and Mikal Bridges will imprison the likes of Evan Fournier and Facu Campazzo so badly that the United Nations may want a word.

The History 📚 Last time around, in 2019, the USA squad led by Kemba Walker, Donovan Mitchell, and Khris Middleton came in seventh place after losses to France and Serbia. Spain ended up victorious after beating Argentina in the Finals, but with Ricky Rubio and Marc Gasol nearing old age, the field is wide open.

International basketball is great, because it’s about teamwork and collective effort. And that’s how the game should be played! We’ll see if the young Americans are up for the challenge…

And Now, a Word From Wemby

We have the inside scoop on what was REALLY said when Adam Silver welcomed Wemby to the league. Here's what went down...

Adam: Bonjour Victor! Did you know less than 1% of Enjoy Basketball readers have referred the newsletter to their friends?

Wemby: C’est impossible! We need to fix this! I'll make sure all the rookies know—I know the Thompson twins will be down for the positive movement!

Adam: You're the man Victor! And guess what? By sharing your link, you'll score some free swag. I'll even throw in a mini basketball hoop for your locker!

Wemby: You’re the real MVP Adam, but every hoop is mini to me. Merci beaucoup!

We appreciate you Adam! And to all of you: all you have to do is share your custom link at the bottom of this email with someone who would enjoy it, and you’ll get rewarded! Track your progress by signing into your account and navigating to “Referrals”. It’s really that easy, and it helps us grow the Enjoy Basketball community!

It’s The Remix!

Last G League season, the only two NBA teams without an affiliate team were the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trailblazers. But that’s all changed now with the introduction of Portland’s new G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix!

Portland is a city of creators and artists, so we think the name is perfect. It could even be a subtle reference to DAME D.O.L.L.A! Regardless, the logo is absolutely COLD—we love the vintage font and record design.

Meanwhile, G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim said he's hoping the Suns can get their own G League squad going for the 2024-25 season. As of now, the Suns outsource their young talent to the Agua Caliente Clippers (LAC) and the Stockton Kings (SAC), but we can’t wait for the Suns to have a G League franchise all to themselves!

What do you think the Suns' future G League affiliate will be named?
