Game Recaps

Magic throttle 76ers 144-103, improve to 3-0 in NBA Cup play

Remember the somewhat slow start the Magic had to open the season? Because at this point, it’s starting to feel like ancient history.

It took a few weeks, but it seems the new-look Magic have finally found their offensive rhythm. Everything was clicking for Orlando in this dominant win, led by Anthony Black’s career night (31 PTS, 12/17 shooting) and Franz Wagner’s stellar play (22 PTS, 8/13 FG). The Magic scored 51 points in the second quarter alone, and simply never looked back.

On the Philly side, it was just one of those nights where everything went wrong. Tyrese Maxey didn’t have the greatest outing (20 PTS, 7/15) but the Sixers did see Jared McCain (15 PTS) have his first breakout game of the season. Silver linings, baby!

Orlando improves to 3-0 in group play during the NBA Cup, and seem to have their eyes on the prize!

Pistons hold off Pacers 122-117, win 13th Straight game

Pistons fans, no need to pinch yourself. This isn’t a dream, this is reality. Monday night marked the team’s 13th consecutive victory, tying the longest streak in franchise history!

By the way…. this was the season outcome the last two times the Pistons won 13 straight: 👀

The Pistons were in control for most of this one, leading by as many as 18 points early on in the fourth, anchored by the man himself, Cade Cunningham (24 PTS, 11 REB). The bench pieces for Detroit came up huge as well, with Caris Levert (19 PTS) and Jaden Ivey (12 PTS in 11 MIN) adding in timely buckets of their own. You can never have too much depth!

Even when injury-riddled, you still can’t count out the Pacers. Indy clawed all the way back to cut the deficit to just two, led by Pascal Siakam (24 PTS). Down by three on the final possession, Benedict Mathurin (14 PTS) had a chance to tie with a three, but wasn’t able to convert.

The Pistons move to 15-2 with the win and remain top dog in the Eastern Conference. 🔥

Elsewhere around the NBA:

  • Streak = Snapped! The Wizards finally end their 14 game long losing streak in a huge 132-113 Cup win over the Hawks. CJ McCollum turned back the clock with 46 points and 10 dimes, and Alex Sarr (27 PTS, 10 REB) continues his amazing start to year two. Love to see it!

  • The Pistons aren’t the only east squad that’s currently streaking! The Raptors notched their 8th straight win Monday night in their 110-99 victory over the Cavs. Brandon Ingram continued his strong start to the season, cooking the Cavs with a season high 37 points (15 in the 3rd). Keep on rolling, Toronto!

  • Comeback Kings! Sacramento’s late rally in the fourth to force OT got the job done in their 117-112 win over the Wolves. Demar Derozan (33 PTS) was his usual clutch self, and Precious Achiwua (10 PTS, 8 REB) came up with a huge game-clinching steal in OT. Anthony Edwards’ 43 points wasn’t enough in this one for Minny, who have now let two straight games slip away. You know what they say, you play until the final buzzer sounds….

  • No KD, no problem. The Rockets spoil the Suns’ three game winning streak in dominant fashion, winning 112-92 behind Amen Thompson’s biggest scoring game of the season (28 PTS, 7 REB, 8 AST). Aaron Holiday (22 PTS, 6 3PT) was a major spark-plug off the bench. Houston continues to soar up the west standings.. 🚀

Wayback Wednesday

It hasn’t been too long since he left the game, but it feels right to use this week’s edition of Wayback Wednesday to highlight one of the best PFs of his era. He sacrificed his individual numbers for winning and grabbed perhaps the most important rebound in NBA history- give it up for Chris Bosh! 🔥

Taken by Toronto 4th overall in the legendary 2003 draft, CB’s rise to superstardom was quick. Bosh was just 22 years old when he led the Raptors back to the playoffs in ‘06-’07, putting up elite numbers (22.7 PTS, 10.5 REB) and finished 7th in MVP voting. He was single-handedly putting Toronto hoops back on the map! 😤

However, CB was never able to get past the first round as a Raptor. By 2010, it was time for change. He wanted more than anything to win, and joined forces with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in Miami.

Bosh’s new squad in Miami came with a new role. Going from top option in Toronto to now being third on the totem pole was certainly an adjustment, but CB managed it like a true pro. He was still named an All-Star every season he was in Miami, but his scoring numbers took quite a dip…

At this point in his career, though, winning was more important. His sacrifices paid off, as the Heat won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. And if it wasn’t for Bosh grabbing the offensive rebound that led to Ray Allen’s game-tying 3 in game 6 of the 2013 Finals, it’s likely the Heatles era only gets one ring instead of two.

After LeBron’s departure back to Cleveland in 2014, Bosh stuck around in Miami and was ready for an increased role. Unfortunately, this didn’t last too long, as he was diagnosed with Blood Clots an had to retire from basketball in 2016 at just 33 years old.

Although his career was cut a few years short, Chris Bosh accomplished just about everything in his Hall of Fame career, and is one of the greatest players in NBA history!
