NBA Headlines

Three-time NBA champion Danny Green announces retirement

Danny Green AKA the Mean Green Title-Winning Machine announced his retirement on his YouTube channel yesterday! Green made a name for himself in San Antonio, winning his first championship in 2014 with Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and a young Kawhi Leonard, before he moved on to Toronto… and won a championship… and then to Los Angeles… and won a championship there as well. This dude was INSANE!

Endless respect to a guy like this who brought winning culture along with him wherever he went. Enjoy retirement, Danny!

ESPN to bring in Shams Charania as Senior NBA Insider

Goodbye Woj, hello Shams! ESPN announced earlier this week that they would be hiring Shams Charania as their new Senior NBA Insider after days of speculation, replacing Adrian Wojnarowski after Woj departed to become the GM of the St Bonaventure Bonnies men's basketball team. Shams previously worked for Stadium and The Athletic, but is now doing things like making his ESPN NBA Today debut!

What this means for all of you, however, is that you have to get Shams’ notifications on ASAP. That is, if you didn’t have them on already.

Quick Hitters

  • Mavericks guard Dante Exum is set to miss approximately three months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. Get well soon, Dante!

  • The Magic and Wendell Carter Jr agreed on a three-year, $59 million contract extension that keeps Carter in Orlando through 2029.

  • PJ Tucker and the Los Angeles Clippers came to a mutual agreement for Tucker to step away from the team as the two sides figure out his future. Could there be a buyout coming, or maybe a trade once it’s an option?

If the Clippers and PJ Tucker part ways, where would you like to see him?

WNBA Finals

Lynx top Liberty 95-93 in epic Game 1 OT thriller

We’ll say it once again—if you’re not watching the WNBA, you’re MISSING OUT!

Game 1 of the WNBA Finals last night was a straight-up movie. Jonquel Jones (24 PTS, 10 REB) and the New York Liberty built a pretty comfortable lead in the first half—even stretching their lead out to 18 in the second quarter—but Minnesota had made it a game by midway through the second half.

A Courtney Williams (23 PTS, 5 AST, 5 REB) four-point play with 5.5 seconds left in regulation helped finish Minnesota’s comeback and send the game to overtime. And from there, it was the magic of Williams, Napheesa Collier (21 PTS, 8 REB), and Kayla McBride (22 PTS, 4 AST) that got the job done for Minnesota.

If you’re compelled to describe this game as “historic”, you’d be right. Minnesota’s comeback tied the record for the largest comeback in WNBA Finals history, a mark set by the New York Liberty themselves in 1999 against the Houston Comets. There’s something special about these Lynx…
