Last Nightā€™s Action

SGAā€™s magical first half leads Oklahoma City over Orlando 105-99

If we told you that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder in scoring with 35 PTS (he did) in this game, youā€™d probably be impressed. But what if we told you 24 of those came in the first half? On 10-11 shooting from the field?

Yup. SGA (35 PTS, 6 AST) and company had opened up a 20+ point lead by the beginning of the third quarter, with four other Thunderā€”Isaiah Hartenstein, Alex Caruso, Jalen Williams, and Aaron Wigginsā€”recording at least 11 PTS. Anthony Black (23 PTS) led a decent second half by the Magic, but it just wasnā€™t enough.

Wembanyama, Spurs take down Hawks 133-126 in heated OT battle

Gravity-defying blocks. Clutch three after clutch three. Toughness that wonā€™t show up on the stat sheet. Victor Wembanyama (42 PTS, 6 REB, 5 AST, 4 BLK) quite literally did it all in the Spursā€™ win last night.

Weā€™re not gonna lieā€”when Deā€™Andre Hunter (27 PTS, 6 REB) posterized Wemby late in the 4Q, the vibes were strongly on Atlantaā€™s side. But a ten-point run from the Alien that stretched from the fourth quarter into overtime handed the momentum back to the Spurs, and a Keldon Johnson (11 PTS, 5 REB) layup that put San Antonio up four with a minute and a half left to go clinched the win. Is Wemby an All-Star starter this year?

Elsewhere around the NBAā€¦

  • Mikal Bridges (29 PTS) and the Knicks helped Karl-Anthony Towns (32 PTS, 20 REB) demolish his old team to the tune of a 133-107 blowoutā€”Julius Randle (24 PTS, 5 REB) also played well against his former squad, but the Wolves just couldnā€™t stop New Yorkā€™s three-point attack.

  • Golden State!!! What happened?!? The Grizzlies absolutely beat down on the Warriors in a 144-93 blowout, thanks in part to a big night from Santi Aldama (21 PTS, 14 REB, 5 3PM).

  • Collin Sexton (30 PTS, 7 AST), Lauri Markkanen (27 PTS, 14 REB), and Keyonte George (28 PTS) led a furious offensive attack as the Jazz took down Detroit 126-119.

  • The Lakers outlasted the Kings 113-100 in Sacramentoā€”Austin Reaves (25 PTS) leading LA in scoring was enough to overcome solid performances from Domantas Sabonis (18 PTS, 12 REB, 9 AST) and Deā€™Aaron Fox (26 PTS).

  • Despite a late fourth quarter push by Denver, Shaedon Sharpe (27 PTS, 6 REB) and Anfernee Simons (28 PTS, including the game-winning layup) led the Blazers to a 126-124 upset over Nikola Jokic (34 PTS, 8 AST, 5 REB) and the Nuggets.

  • Indiana took down the Suns in Phoenix 120-111 behind Tyrese Haliburtonā€™s playmaking (13 PTS, 12 AST) and Pascal Siakamā€™s all-around great night (25 PTS, 18 REB). Kevin Durant (37 PTS, 10 REB, 6 AST) still got his, though.

  • Despite a 31-point double-double from Jayson Tatum, the Bulls handed Boston a rare home loss in their 117-108 win! Shout-out to Zach LaVine (36 PTS)ā€”more on him and his future with Chicago laterā€¦

Top Five Friday

The NBA Cup is over, so with the trade deadline in less than two months, teams are starting to call around and explore potential in-season moves. Here are five players we think could get sent to a new team in the near future: ā¬‡ļø

  1. Jimmy Butler

If youā€™ve paid attention to NBA news over the past week, you know that Miamiā€™s Jimmy Butler era might be coming to a close this season. The Heat are ā€œopen to hearing from interested suitorsā€ according to Shams, and Butlerā€™s reported preferred trade destinations are Golden State, Dallas, and Houston.

Because yeah, the Western Conference definitely needed to get stronger.

  1. Zach LaVine

Another year, another trade deadline cycle where it feels like Zach LaVine is surely about to be moved. LaVine is having one of his most efficient years in recent memory, but given the Bullsā€™ current situation, that feels like more of a trade value booster than a valuable on-court contribution. There are rumors about a potential LaVine āž”ļø Denver trade, including reports that the Bulls have reciprocated interest in Michael Porter Jr., but nothing concrete yet.

  1. CJ McCollum

After being absolutely decimated by injuries to start the season, itā€™s safe to say that the Pelicansā€™ front office knows this isnā€™t their year. New Orleans owes McCollum over $60 million between this season and next, which is pretty high for a team that might struggle to compete in a loaded Western Conference over the next few seasons. Could we see a Dame and CJ reunion in Milwaukee?

  1. Nikola Vucevic

Surprise! Another Chicago Bull makes this list, because when youā€™re an under-.500 team with multiple huge contracts, youā€™re gonna be involved in trade discussions. Vucevic is having his best season as a Bull so far this year, shooting the three at a career-high clip. Heā€™s under contract until the end of next season, when heā€™ll be 35 years old, but what if Vooch continues to age like fine wine?

  1. Caris LeVert

Why would the Cavs make a move after such an impressive start to the season, you ask? Clevelandā€™s payroll currently sits right above the luxury tax threshold, and with Max Strus nearing a return from his ankle injury, the time might be right for Cleveland to shed a wing on a sizable contract to make space for him. LeVert is on an expiring deal worth $16.6 million this year, making him an attractive option for low-tier contenders hoping to make playoff pushes.

Looking to elevate your brand with a custom hat?

Donā€™t make it just any hat. Make it a Branded Bills hat.

Why? They make quality merch (especially hats) that people actually want to wear.

Donā€™t just take it from us, here is what one of their recent clients has to say:

ā€œI think Branded Bills is memorable because it is more of a lifestyle brand for us. Itā€™s not just employees wearing them to work or technicians wearing them out in the field; they're wearing them to bowling alleys, sporting events, etc, and theyā€™re repping our brand which is exactly what we want.ā€ Rebecca Ferguson, Empire CAT
