Weekend Wrap-Up
Joker scores 104 points in two days, propels Nuggets past Hawks 141-111 on Sunday
There have only been four players in the history of basketball to win MVP four times. Soon, that club may have a fifth member.
Over the course of Denver’s two weekend games, Nikola Jokic put on an absolute clinic, leading the Nuggets to a Sunday win over Atlanta and strengthening his hold on the MVP ladder’s pole position. Joker averaged a cool 52 PTS, 15 REB, and 8 AST in those two contests, a statline that almost reads like a joke.
Despite the three-time MVP’s dominance, Denver is just 12-10 on the season, which may have something to do with what happens when he leaves the floor. Tying LeBron James and Wilt Chamberlain in MVP hardware is all fine and good, but we know Jokic is hoping for another banner in the Mile High City. Only time will tell…

Cade’s triple-double helps Pistons to 120-111 victory over Knicks in 10th win of season
Earlier this season, league discourse was dominated by talks of whether Paolo Banchero was the most underrated #1 pick in league history. We’d like to see that, and raise you Cade Cunningham.
The former Oklahoma State stud has been key in the Pistons’ rise from the bottom of the standings, with the most recent example coming on Saturday—his 29-point, 15-assist, 10-rebound gem led Detroit to a road dub over the Knicks. Despite 31 PTS from Jalen Brunson and an efficient 17 PTS from Josh Hart, New York could not keep up with the Motor City.
This Pistons team may be young, but they’re already one of our favorite teams to watch. We can’t wait to Enjoy what comes next! 🤩
Cade Cunningham's been hunting pull-up 3s more than ever this season. Up to 37.2% on them, really been a big weapon. The deep jumpers took a bit to develop pre-draft and it's possible it's the same in the NBA. Good stuff.
34th in EPM, 20th in Estimated Wins, having a great year.

Elsewhere around the NBA…
10, 9, 8, 7-win Sixers! After a rough start to the season, Philly has strung together a pair of wins thanks to solid performances from Paul George on Friday (21 PTS, 9 AST) and Tyrese Maxey (25 PTS, 14 AST, 11 REB) and Joel Embiid (31 PTS, 12 REB) on Sunday.
Between black bears, brown bears, and polar bears, the most dangerous kind may be Ja Morant. In his first uninterrupted season in years, Temetrius is averaging 21.7 PPG and 8.5 AST on 57.4% true shooting, helping Memphis to a 16-8 record and the second seed in the West. That includes a 32-point near-triple-double in a Saturday win over the reigning champ Celtics. Watch out for the Grizz!
The Heat’s new starting lineup is 7-2, and Miami is back in the thick of the East playoff race in the blink of an eye. On Sunday night, the Heat torched Cleveland in a 122-112 win to move to 12-10 behind 34 PTS and 7 AST from Tyler Herro. Is another generational Miami run on the horizon?

The Emergence of Evan 📈
Evan Mobley has been one of the league’s foremost defensive demons for a while now, but he’s come into his own as an offensive force this year. As a part of the Cavs’ early-season tear, Mobley is averaging a career-high 18.9 PPG—he recently set a career-high with 41 PTS in Cleveland’s win over Charlotte to move to 21-3. He left last night’s game with an ankle injury, but these words from HC Kenny Atkinson are pretty telling:
Kenny Atkinson on Evan Mobley’s Injury:
“I don’t think it’s a bad one—- We had some discussion. He [Evan Mobley] said ‘I’m gonna try it’ [playing through the injury] and if it’s still bothering him, I’m gonna stop— That’s a tough kid.”

Dropping Dimes 📈
The legend of Ice Trae will reign in Atlanta for decades to come. Since being drafted to the Hawks in 2018, Trae Young has left a legacy of big games and clutch performances, with days like Friday’s 31-point, 20-assist (plus a game-winning triple) outburst in a win over the Lakers the latest in the lineage. It’s cold in here! 🥶

Blowout Victories 📈
Maybe it’s the high-powered offenses in the league today. Maybe it’s load management. But this season, blowout victories have been on the rise. On Friday, the Jazz dropped the Blazers by 42 PTS; then on Sunday, there were blowouts of 28, 30, and 44 PTS. We’re still Enjoying each and every game, but some of these final scores are crazy!
