Game Recaps

Thunder on brink of the Finals, take 3-2 lead over Spurs in 127-114 victory

The OKC Thunder are now just one win away from being the first defending champion in eight years to go back to the Finals. 👀

Historically speaking, the winner of game five in a 2-2 series goes on to win the series over 80% of the time. Both the Spurs and Thunder knew how important getting this game was, but it was OKC who went up a level.

After a tight first quarter, the Thunder pulled away from the young Spurs to lead by 11 at the half, then pushed their lead up to 20 halfway through the third.

One thing about these Spurs though, is that they have zero quit in them. That 20 point lead quickly evaporated to just eight near the end of the third, but OKC responded to the SAS run like the champions they are, and put San Antonio to bed in the fourth quarter.

For the Thunder, their insurmountable depth was put on full display yet again. Outside of Shai’s expected 30-piece (32 PTS), it was Alex Caruso (22 PTS, 4/8 3PT) and Jared McCain (20 PTS) who stepped up big time in the absence of J-Dub and Ajay Mitchell:

OKC simply looked like the superior team throughout in this one. Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox had their worst shooting nights of the series (8/30 FG combined) and now have their backs up against the wall in a do-or-die game six at home on Thursday.

48 hours from now, we’ll either have our 2026 Finals matchup set, or we’ll be getting ready to watch a game 7 with a trip to the Finals on the line. Either way, it’s going to be electric!

Knicks complete sweep of Cavs, advance to NBA Finals for first time since 1999 in dominant 130-93 win

The New York Knicks are heading to the NBA Finals. 🔥

Knicks fans have waited 27 long years to hear those words again. All the years of losing, poor basketball, fired coaches, bad injury luck, etc, makes this moment even more special for the die-hard fans of New York, as if all the suffering was worth this run right here.

Not only did the Knicks advance, they did it in historic fashion. For the third straight series, New York absolutely destroyed their opponent in a closeout game. Between the Cavs, Sixers, and Hawks series, the Knicks outscored those teams by 118 (!) points in those respective closeout games….just pure domination. 😳

Similar to their previous series-enders, this game was essentially over in the first half. The Knicks built a 29 point lead in the first half alone, and it was smooth sailing from there. This was a win by committee victory, with five players scoring 15+ points (Brunson, KAT, Anunoby, Bridges, Shamet).

With the finals-clinching win, New York becomes the fifth team in NBA playoff history to win 11 straight playoff games, and they have by far the highest point differential out of any of those teams (+262). Though it’s likely whoever comes out of the west will be favored over the Knicks, NY is clicking on all cylinders at the exact right time, and that is a scary sight for their incoming finals opponent.

Knicks fans, it’s been a long time coming. The job isn’t finished yet, but enjoy this one. You deserve it!

Playoff Eulogies

For the first time since 2018, the Cavaliers reached the Eastern Conference Finals….but they ran into a historically hot Knicks squad that ended their season. Although it’s time to lay the 2025-26 Cavs to rest, let’s talk about what’s next for Cleveland:

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS: Conference Finals to the Knicks (0-4)

The most brutal aspect of this time of the season is the finality of it. Doors you thought might stay open slam shut at the blink of an eye. Years of careful roster construction can come crashing down in 4 games. That’s what we just saw in Cleveland.

What was a fun playoff run (winning two game 7s! Knocking off the #1 seed!) will now live in the infamy of the Game 1 choke and eventual sweep. Now Cleveland faces an offseason with existential consequences. Evan Mobley, James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, and Jarrett Allen are great players- and any one of them are liable to be dealt to appease the all mighty 2nd Apron.

May 27th, 2010: Lakers defeat Rockets 103-101 to take 3-2 lead in WCF after Ron Artest’s game-winning putback

Late May is bound to give us some playoff BANGERS every year. Let’s take a look back at one of this intense game five finish of the 2010 WCF between Kobe’s Lakers and Steve Nash’s Suns!

Going into this series, there was a ton at stake. Kobe and the Lakers were looking to repeat as champions after winning in ‘09, while Nash, Amare Stoudemire, and the Suns were looking to finally break through to the NBA Finals after years of close calls and bad breaks. With the two teams splitting the first four games, game five in LA was pivotal.

This game was a battle from the opening tip all the way down to the final seconds. Trailing 101-98 with under 30 seconds to go, Nash (29 PTS, 11 AST) missed a three to tie, but he followed his own miss and kicked it back out to Jason Richardson (12 PTS) who missed his first attempt, but yet another offensive rebound gave Richardson another shot, and he miraculously banked it in. All of a sudden, the game was tied and the Suns had all the momentum.

Then….it happened.

With 3.5 seconds to go, the Lakers had a chance to win. All 20,000 people in the arena knew where the ball was going to…Kobe Bean Bryant. And yes, Kobe (30 PTS, 11 REB, 9 AST) got a shot off, but was way short….so short that it fell right into Ron Artest’s hands, who had the presence of mind to quickly get the ball back up and it sunk in off the glass at the buzzer.

Just like that, the Lakers were up 3-2 and everyone, especially the Suns, were in complete shock.

This sequence is a MUST-watch, take a look:
