Who to Watch šŸ‘€

Crunch time is here, and the stakes couldnā€™t be higher.

With teams all jostling for playoff positioning, trying to avoid the lottery, or making a desperate postseason push, every game matters more than ever down the stretch of the NBA season. Here are the teams with the most on the line in the final weeks:

Dallas Mavericks šŸ“

In the words of Pusha T on "What Would Meek Do?"ā€”how do you respond?

The Mavericks have their backs against the wall in a way few NBA teams have ever had. Fans are breathing down the organizationā€™s neck for trading away an absolutely generational talentā€¦ not to mention that their two stars are now on the wrong side of 30 and every single big man on the roster seems to be injured. To put it lightly, itā€™s not a great position to be in when fighting for a playoff spot in a loaded Western Conference.

If Dallas can weather the storm, get healthy, and make the playoffs, they still have an elite one-two punch in Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving surrounded by a bevy of talented role players who are capable of pulling off an upset over just about anyone.

But if they can'tā€¦ where do you go from here? Kyrie has a player option next season and could easily opt out if the vibes are off, ending Nico Harrisonā€™s "master plan" before it really even started.

Phoenix Suns ā˜€ļø

If weā€™re still talking about the West, it's hard to get more ā€œmake-or-breakā€ over the rest of the season than the Suns. Hovering just outside the play-in, Phoenix has gone nine games under .500 since starting the season 9-2, and theyā€™ve struggled to find any sort of depth or build a cohesive defensive identity around the big three of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal.

The Suns kept it pretty quiet on the trade market this season, only acquiring Charlotteā€™s role-playing trio of Nick Richards, Cody Martin, and Vasilije Micic. But was it enough? If not, Phoenix could be the site of this summer's GM gold rush.

If the season ends badly, it feels like KD will almost certainly depart for greener pastures, which could even signal the end of D-Book's time in the Valley. If they want to keep this core around for another ride, Phoenix will have to dip deep and find a way to disrupt the Western Conferenceā€™s elite squads come playoff time.

Detroit Pistons āš™ļø

Letā€™s end things off with a team on the cusp of something great, rather than one struggling to stick together. After a half-decade of tanking, the Pistons have burst back into relevancy in a major way behind the do-it-all majesty of first-time All-Star Cade Cunningham, some red-hot shooting from Malik Beasley, and one of the leagueā€™s stingiest defenses led by Ausar Thompson.

Detroit isnā€™t just playing good ballā€”theyā€™re peaking at just the right time. Since January 1st, the Pistons have the third best net rating in the East and the third-best defense in the entire NBA. With Jaden Ivey hopefully back by the playoffs, could the Motor City be headed toward their first postseason appearance since 2019ā€¦ or maybe even their first series win since ā€˜08?

NBA News Round-Up

Lonnie Walker IV signs two-year deal with Sixers

After a brief stint overseas, Lonnie Walker is back in the league and heading to Philly! The former first-round pick signed a two-year deal with the Sixers yesterday, giving them some much-needed scoring help off the bench. And letā€™s not forgetā€”this is the same guy who torched the Warriors in the playoffs for the Lakers two years ago, proving he can step up when the lights are the brightest.

Even better? This is a homecoming for Walker, who grew up just outside of Philly in Reading, PA. He now gets to bring his game back to where it all startedā€¦ and maybe even cook up some more playoff magic. šŸ”„
