Game Recaps
76ers win 139-136 nail-biter in OT over Grizzlies as Edgecombe hits the Winner
VJ Edgecombe may be a rookie, but this shot was one of a 10-year veteran:
Edgecombe (25 PTS) was 1/3 of a three-headed monster for Philly on Tuesday night, as Tyrese Maxey (34 PTS) and Joel Embiid (34 PTS, 10 REB, 8 AST) put the 76ers in prime position to take the win on the road.
The two teams were trading buckets down the stretch in OT, and it was clear that whoever had the ball last was going to win the game. Edgecombe’s winner with just 1.7 seconds on the clock proved exactly that. 😎
It feels weird saying Ja Morant turned back the clock because he’s only 26 years old, but Morant was looking like the Ja Grizzlies fans would see on a nightly basis just a few seasons ago, as he put up an absurd season-high 40 points on 16/22 shooting in this one. Though Ja’s performance wasn’t enough to get the W on Tuesday, it leaves a very promising sign that he can keep up this stellar play as we enter the New Year. 👀

Cavs use huge fourth quarter to defeat Spurs 113-101
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been looking for a statement win. On Monday night, they got a BIG one.
After a recent losing streak that saw the Cavs blow a 17 point fourth quarter lead on Christmas and then going down by as many as 37 points two days later, Cleveland went into San Antonio against one of the hottest teams in the league and got the win.
It wasn’t just any win, either. It was career win number 200 for Kenny Atkinson. Congrats, Coach!
It was overall a quiet night for Donovan Mitchell (3/12 FG) but Jarrett Allen (27 PTS, 10 REB) and Evan Mobley (16 PTS) took over for Cleveland in the win. Darius Garland (15 PTS, 11 AST) is looking more and more like the DG we all know and love with each passing game, and the Cavs had seven guys score in double figures as a squad. Strength in numbers!
Victor Wembanyama’s 26 points and 14 rebounds weren’t enough to secure the victory, as the Cavs used a massive 37-23 fourth quarter to walk out of the Frost Bank Center victorious.

Elsewhere around the NBA:
LeBron turned 41 yesterday, but he must not have wished for a W when he blew out his candles. 😅 The Pistons came into LA and took home a major 128-106 win over the Lakers on Tuesday. An 18-6 run to open the fourth quarter was all Detroit needed to seal the win, as the team shot a blistering 66% from the field! Cade Cunningham (27 PTS, 11 AST) got major help from his teammates tonight, most notably Marcus Sasser (5/8 3PT in 24 min).
Don’t bother checking the forecast in Phoenix. With the way the Suns have been playing as of late, it’s looking bright for the foreseeable future. 😎 Phoenix notched their fourth straight win on Monday night, 115-101 over the Wizards. Collin Gillespie 20-pieces (25 PTS) are becoming second nature, and the Suns as a whole were lights out from distance (42.5% 3PT). Phoenix is 19-13 and inching closer to the top 6 in the west, but most importantly, the vibes are incredibly high out in the Valley as we head into 2026.
Back to back nights, back to back thrilling victories. After rallying to beat the Warriors on Sunday night, the Raptors took it a step further on Monday, overcoming a 21 point deficit to sneak away with a 107-106 victory over the Magic on Monday. It was a balanced scoring attack for the Raps, with Jamal Shead (19 PTS) and Gradey Dick (15 PTS), leading the way, while Scottie Barnes followed up his ridiculous statline against GSW with a double-double (13 PTS, 11 REB). Paolo Banchero (23 PTS, 15 REB, 10 AST) had a chance to be the hero for Orlando, but his game-winning three point attempt fell short.

Nikola Jokić hyperextends knee, will miss at least four weeks
For the first time in Nikola Jokić’s career, he’s going to be missing extended time.
Jokić is otherworldly in many attributes, but perhaps his best ability has been his availability throughout his career. The most games he’s ever missed in a season is 13, but there’s a high likelihood that changes with the news of him missing at least the next four weeks with his hyperextended knee.
The Nuggets, now down four starters, will need to do their best to tread water in the competitive west for the time being.
Rest up, Joker! 🙏

Wayback Wednesday
On this week’s edition of Wayback Wednesday, let’s show some love to one of the most underrated players of the 2010s- Paul Millsap! 🔥

Drafted with the 47th overall selection in the 2006 draft by the Jazz, Paul Millsap began to quickly build himself a reputation as one of the best second round picks ever.
While in Utah, he became a key piece to several successful playoff teams, signifying his role as a real bruiser off the bench, routinely finishing in the top five in Sixth Man of the Year voting. It wasn’t until All-Star Carlos Boozer left for Chicago in the 2010 offseason that Millsap really got his chance to stand out…
He put up career numbers in the 2010-11 season (17.3 PTS, 7.6 REB, 1.4 STL) and had his share of insane individual moments as well. I’m sure you’ve heard of Tracy McGrady’s 13 points in 33 seconds, but have you ever seen Millsap’s 11 points in 28 seconds against the Big Three Miami Heat? 🤔
Take a look, you won’t regret it:
Millsap’s opted to leave the Jazz in 2013 in favor of the Atlanta Hawks. That decision turned out to a be a fantastic one. He was named an All-Star in ALL four seasons he played with Atlanta, with his peak individual season coming in his final year there (18.1 PTS, 7.7 REB, 31% 3PT). His time with the Hawks is where he evolved his game further, becoming a respectable three point shooter, which opened up the floor for the rest of his game!
PM was also a huge part of the 2015 Hawks team that managed to win 60 games and make a run at the Eastern Conference Finals, a place the Hawks hadn’t found themselves in decades…
Following his career years in ATL, Millsap joined the upstart Denver Nuggets, with a budding Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray. He transformed their defense and was the exact veteran presence the team needed to get over the hump make the playoffs. Talk about a true vet!
After bouncing around a few more squads in the early 2020s, Paul Millsap decided to call it a career in 2023. One of the most slept-on bigs of his era, Millsap was a part of many successful teams, and was a major reason as to why they were so successful. Shoutout PM!
