Drumroll, Please!

It’s regular season time! Before Tuesday hits, let’s break down the two star-studded opening night matchups.

Banner #18 vs. the New New York Knicks

It’s not often we see history made on the first night of the season, but that’s exactly what’ll happen tomorrow night when Boston hangs its record 18th championship banner. While it’s truly just 1 of 82 games, it’ll be awesome to see the C’s get their rings and begin their title defense. And with all their stars reloaded from the title run, Boston is built for it.

On the other side, New York is trying its new squad on for size for the first time, with Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns making their Knick debuts. The Garden Gang went all out this offseason to assemble a roster that could compete with the Celtics—now, they’ll get an early chance to see how they match up with the defending champs.

Father’s Day vs. Ant’s New Friends

On the other side of the KAT trade, the Timberwolves are taking on the Lakers in a classic late-night Western Conference showdown. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo will play their first games in Minnesota uniforms and that’s that, right?

Wrong. In case you haven’t heard, one of the greatest players ever will enter #Year22 with his son by his side. LeBron and Bronny James have a great chance to become the first father-son duo to share an NBA court in league history on Tuesday, and while the LakeShow will always be a major story, we’d say it’s more than deserved in this case.

Let Freedom Ring!

Turns out ā€œThe Big Appleā€ isn’t New York’s only title—the other is the one that the Liberty won on Sunday night when they out-dueled Minnesota in a nail-biting Game 5 to clinch the franchise’s first WNBA championship.

After the Lynx forced a winner-take-all battle with a gutsy Game 4 win, Game 5 was a close fight from start to finish. The Libs ultimately pulled it out thanks to 17 PTS from former MVP Jonquel Jones, who added to her trophy case with the Finals MVP award.

It’s been a historic season for the WNBA, and its ending was everything the fans could’ve asked for. The W is in a New York State of Mind! Congrats to the champs!

Dreams Come True…

As teams carve out their final rosters ahead of the season, a number of players have signed their first big-league contracts. Let’s meet two of the league’s newest dreamers!

Quincy Olivari

It’s hard not to root for a guy like Olivari, who has fought tooth and nail for a spot in the league after going undrafted out of Xavier this past June. Olivari has been balling in the preseason, most recently dropping 22 PTS against Golden State and reacting the way we all would if we met Steph Curry. The Lakers knew better than to let him get away, inking him to a two-way deal.

Yuki Kawamura

The NBA has a new shortest player, and he just so happens to share a team with one of the league’s tallest. After a solid stretch of preseason performances, Yuki Kawamura—the former MVP of the Japanese BLeague—earned a two-way contract with the Grizzlies, making him teammates with fellow rookie Zach Edey.

And in case you’re wondering, yes. They took the picture.

What We’re Enjoying

If you haven’t re-listened to Earl Sweatshirt’s 2022 project SICK! recently, here’s your sign from the universe to do so. ā€œ2010ā€ was an instant classic from the Chicago legend, but it’s cuts from later on in the album like ā€œTitanicā€ that solidify this project as truly great and one of Earl’s best. Take a listen: ā¬‡ļø
