Weekend Wrap-Up

Randle’s ridiculous game-winner leads Wolves over Suns 120-117

Hitting a game-winning buzzer-beater during your first 15 games with a new team is a pretty good way to endear yourself to a fanbase. Julius Randle did just that on Sunday night, infecting all of Minneapolis with Timberwolf fever with a ridiculous shot to cap a 35-point night and help Minny to a win over Phoenix.

This game was bitter, unsurprisingly so if you remember that these squads matched up in last year’s Western Conference playoffs. Thanks to 44 PTS from Devin Booker, the Suns led by as many as 16 points and by 10 in the fourth quarter, but the Wolves stormed back behind Randle’s gem as well as 24 PTS on 9/14 shooting from Anthony Edwards. What a game, what a play!

No Mitchell, no problem for Cavs in 128-114 win over Charlotte

A crisp fall day. A marshmallow toasted golden brown. The 2024 Cleveland Cavaliers. All instances of perfection.

Through 15 games, the Cavs have taken the league by storm, reeling off an undefeated streak matched by only three other teams in the history of NBA basketball. Sunday’s victory was one of Cleveland’s most impressive yet, as they dispatched the Hornets by double-digits while resting leading scorer Donovan Mitchell. That’s easy when Darius Garland, Ty Jerome, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen each score 21+ PTS. The Cavs have proved they can win every which way, and the only question now is whether they’ll ever lose.

Elsewhere around the NBA…

  • De’Aaron Fox has been swiping the hearts of Sacramento fans for years, but he had arguably his best two-game stretch as a King over the weekend, dropping 60 PTS on Friday and 49 on Saturday. The Kings are 8-6 on the year, but the Fox FC is undefeated.

  • The Lakers will always dominate headlines, but Anthony Davis is the one dominating the opposition. The four-time NBA first-teamer is having arguably his best start in a Lakers uniform, most recently combining for 71 PTS against the Spurs and Pelicans to lead L.A. to a pair of wins.

  • Portland had grim projections ahead of this season, but the Blazers have stayed competitive thanks to strong performances from young guns like Shaedon Sharpe and Dalano Banton—they combined for 55 PTS in a 114-110 win over the Hawks. The future is bright in Rip City!

Record Retrospective

Last week, Klay Thompson played his first game back in Golden State after leaving the Warriors in the offseason. And in honor of his legendary career with the Dubs, let’s look back on one his all-time HEATERS: when he set the record for the most threes in a game in league history.

Fresh off their 16-1 run to the 2017 title, the Warriors entered the 2018 season with unparalleled expectations. And after a 6-1 start to the year, the Monstar Warriors travelled to Chicago in search of another win and found a league record along the way. On that day, Klay caught fire for an unreal 14 three-pointers, leading him to 52 PTS and the Warriors to a 149-124 win. What’s crazier? He did it all in just 27 minutes.

No matter what happens this season, Klay’s time in the blue and gold will never be forgotten. 💪
