Game Recaps

Lillard leads Bucks over Sixers 135-127 on Sunday afternoon

After reshaping their roster at the deadline, the Bucks grabbed a win over the 76ers thanks to a big day from Damian Lillard (43 PTS, 8 AST, 8 REB) and some well-rounded offensive output down the roster (seven Bucks in double figures). That included Kyle Kuzma (13 PTS, 8 REB, 5 AST), who played 36 minutes in his already-crucial role for the Giannis-less Bucks.

As for Philly, Tyrese Maxey (39 PTS) and Joel Embiid (27 PTS, 12 REB, 6 AST) had decent games, but Paul George (12 PTS) and the Sixers’ supporting cast continued their struggling seasons. We’re sure the entire city of Philadelphia had other things on their mind on Sunday, though.

Mavs win battle of Texas against Rockets 116-105 in Anthony Davis’ debut

The world was shocked by the AD-Luka trade, with many claiming the Lakers had 100% fleeced Dallas before Luka had even stepped off the plane in LA. But Davis got to play for his new team before Doncic, and what we saw on Saturday was impressive.

Despite the Rockets doing what the Rockets do—Alperen Sengun (30 PTS, 8 REB), Jalen Green (24 PST, 6 AST), and Amen Thompson (20 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST) led the way for Houston—the Mavericks secured a home win thanks to big nights from both new Mavericks: Anthony Davis had an efficient 26 and Max Christie went 4-5 from three and dropped 23 PTS.

Bad news time: Davis left the game with a thigh strain and is expected to miss multiple weeks. Here’s hoping we can see more of the new-look Mavs ASAP!

Elsewhere around the NBA…

  • 47 points and 11 assists from Devin Booker were plenty to power the Suns to a 135-127 win over Utah, whose night was highlighted by Walker Kessler’s glass-cleaning effort (19 PTS, 22 REB).

  • No Luka, no LeBron, and definitely no Anthony Davis, but the Lakers still pulled out a 124-117 win against Indiana on Saturday thanks to 45 from Austin Reaves and a standout night from Rui Hachimura (24 PTS).

  • Spurs fans, we’re sorry. Late shots by Paolo Banchero and Miles Bridges respectively handed San Antonio two heartbreaking losses over the weekend: a 112-111 L to the Magic and a 117-116 one to Charlotte.

  • Jaden McDaniels has had enough of the Blazers’ recent tear, as he led the T-Wolves over the red-hot Blazers 114-98 with help from the rest of Minnesota’s supporting cast—Naz Reid (23 PTS, 8 REB) and NAW (21 PTS), specifically.

  • It’s just really, really tough to make the Cavs lose. Case in point: Cleveland overcoming a 45-point night from Jordan Poole to win 134-124 behind 33 PTS from Donovan Mitchell.

  • Zion had an incredibly efficient 40 points for the Pels, but the Kings survived New Orleans and grabbed a 123-118 win behind 27 PTS and 16 REB from Domantas Sabonis and 22 PTS from new addition Zach LaVine.

  • Finally, Jimmy Butler (25 PTS) didn’t miss a step in his Warriors debut. He and Steph Curry (34 PTS, 6 AST, 8 3PM) completed a 24-point comeback against the Bulls to grab a 132-111 Golden State.

OTD in 2017: Draymond posts first non-points triple-double

Draymond Green is no stranger to the triple-double—with 43 of them in his career including 11 in the playoffs, we know the man can do it all. But on this day in 2017, Dray had one of the weirdest triple-doubles of his career… and maybe of NBA history.

On February 10, 2017, the KD-Steph-Klay-Draymond Warriors traveled to Memphis to face off against the Marc Gasol and Mike Conley-led Grizzlies. Klay’s 36 points ended up leading the Warriors to a 122-107 win and Durant chipped in with 24 of his own, but it was what Draymond did—and didn’t do—that made this game so historic.

Despite only scoring 4 points, Dray finished the game with a triple-double. Yes, you read that right. With 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals, he became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double with fewer than ten points.

Draymond also swatted five blocks that night, which, along with his 10 blocks, made him the first player to record 15 combined “stocks” in a game since both statistics were first tracked in 1973-74. If this doesn’t represent the multitude of ways that Draymond helped power the Warriors to all those wins back in the 2010s, we don’t know what does.
