Monday Madness

Cavs improve to 8-0 with 116-114 win over Milwaukee

The Cavs. Cannot. Stop. Winning! Despite 36 PTS from Damian Lillard, the Cavaliers prevailed over the Bucks after a back-and-fourth fourth quarter. Darius Garland (39 PTS, 8 AST) had an explosive scoring night, Jarrett Allen (14 PTS, 15 REB) dominated the glass while still moving up and down the court like a guard, and Evan Mobley (17 PTS) wowwed on the defensive end with three blocks. Will the Cavs ever lose?

Clippers come back from down big, beat Spurs 113-104

If you were on an NBA squad and your team went down by 26 in the first quarter, would you just give up? We might have. But the Clippers didnā€™t.

The Spurs ended the first quarter up 40-14 on the Clippers, but that would end up being their biggest lead of the night. In fact, the Clippers slowly but surely stormed all the way back to grab a nine-point win over San Antonio, their first in the new Intuit Dome. Ivica Zubac (17 PTS, 13 REB) continued his explosive start to the season and Norman Powell (23 PTS) led the Clips in scoring. If you know, you know:

Elsewhere around the NBAā€¦

  • Cade Cunningham (17 PTS, 11 REB, 11 AST) had a triple-double and Jaden Ivey (26 PTS) led the Pistons in scoring in their 115-103 win over the Lakers.

  • After trailing for almost the entire game, the Nuggets grabbed a 121-119 home win against Toronto thanks to a late surge led by Nikola Jokic (28 PTS, 14 REB, 13 AST).

  • Oh nothing, just a casual 30 PTS and 11 REB from Myles Turner to lead the Pacers to a 134-127 win over Luka (34 PTS, 15 AST, 7 REB) and the Mavs.

  • A game-winner from Domantas Sabonis (16 PTS, 16 REB, 7 AST) and a well-rounded Sacramento offensive attack powered the Kings over Miami 111-110.

  • Kevin Durant (35 PTS) took charge as the Suns rallied to a 118-116 win over Philly, spoiling Paul Georgeā€™s (15 PTS) 76ers debut.

  • Keyonte George (33 PTS) led the way in Utahā€™s first win of the season, a 135-126 victory over Chicago.

Top Five Friday

Weā€™re two weeks into the NBA season, so now is as good of a time as ever to evaluate each teamā€™s start to the year! Here are our top five surprisingly Enjoy-able team starts this season:

  1. Cleveland Cavaliers (8-0)

You already knew Cleveland was gonna be here, didnā€™t you! Donovan Mitchell has led the Cavs to an incredible start, averaging 23.1 PPG and making an early dark-horse case for MVP. Donā€™t count out Darius Garland, eitherā€”the man hasnā€™t missed a free throw yet this season.

  1. Brooklyn Nets (4-4)

The Nets are only .500, but after an offseason where they traded Mikal Bridges and subsequently saw themselves with the first-overall pick atop numerous mock drafts, a 4-4 start is notable. 25 PPG from Cam Thomas, 20 PPG from Dennis Schroeder, and 16 PPG from Cam Johnsonā€”the vibes in Brooklyn are fun.

  1. Golden State Warriors (6-1)

Shout-out to the Dubs! Trading Klay Thompson was a risk, but Buddy Hield has plugged into the Warriorsā€™ system perfectly and Golden State looks as good as ever. Hield currently leads the Warriors in scoring at 21.9 PPG, but donā€™t count out Steph Curry (19.8 PPG) to overtake Buddy over the next couple weeks.

  1. Houston Rockets (4-3)

These young Rockets are fun. Jalen Green has been leading the pack, averaging 22.9 PTS in a team-high 34.1 minutes per game, but Alperen Sengun is right behind him as the teamā€™s second-highest scorer with 16.4 PPG and 12.3 RPG. The Rockets have beaten Wemby, Luka, and the all-powerful New York Knicks so far this seasonā€”look out for Houston.

  1. Chicago Bulls (3-4)

You might be wondering why the Bulls are on this list with an under-.500 record. But before you doubt us, consider two things: that there are only two teams with over-.500 records in the Eastern Conference right now (Boston and Cleveland) and that two of the Bullsā€™ wins have been against pretty good Memphis and Orlando squads. Maybe this wonā€™t be the dreadful season that Bulls fans were expectingā€¦

šŸ˜³ Not one, but TWO!

šŸ‘½ WEMBY?!?
