Game Recaps

Cavs throttle Pistons in game 7 on the road 125-94, advance to the ECF

Cleveland, that was for you.

After squandering their chance to close out this series at home in game 6, the Cavs had no choice but to respond on the road. And boy, did they respond.

Last night’s game was quite the masterclass from Donovan Mitchell, who answered the call in what was perhaps the most important game of his career to date. He finished with 26 points, including a 15-point third quarter where he was scoring with ease on all three levels, wrecking havoc on the Pistons defense that built their brand off being elite defensively. He was cool, calm, and collected all game long.

Cleveland held a 17 point lead at the half and by the start of the fourth, the lead ballooned to 33. We saw a huge boost from Sam Merrill (23 PTS, 5/7 3PT), and Evan Mobley stuffed the stat sheet (18 PTS, 10 REB, 6 AST).

This game was expected to be a dogfight between two teams that have clashed back and forth for six games, but instead we witnessed pure dominance from the Wine and Gold.

Although this series ended in defeat, this season was a tremendous stepping stone for the Pistons. It’s easy to forget that just two years ago, this team lost 26 straight games. Going from laughing stock of the league to finishing as the number one seed in the east and winning 60 games is impressive no matter how you slice it. The core of Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren is just beginning, and it’s going to be a treat watching how this Pistons squad continues to develop over the next few seasons.

For now though, we get to look forward to the Cavs and the Knicks with a trip to the Finals on the line!

Spurs close out Timberwolves in huge 139-109 game 6 win, advance to WCF

If there was any doubt going into the playoffs about the young Spurs being serious championship contenders, they have all been put to rest by now. San Antonio is going back to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in nine years, and they got it done in dominant fashion.

They got out to a 25 point lead early in the first half and they simply never looked back. It was a quiet night for Wemby’s standards (19 PTS, 27 MIN) but it was the lights out shooting of the Spurs guards that carried SAS over the top. Stephon Castle (32 PTS, 11 REB, 6 AST) Julian Champagnie (18 PTS) De’Aaron Fox (26 PTS, 9 AST) and Devin Vassell (11 PTS) shot a blistering 15/26 from three combined, and it was all too much for Minnesota to handle.

Even though the road ends here for the Wolves, you have to give them credit for their 2026 playoff run. They battled several injuries to several key guys throughout, and managed to overcome the adversity got through the first round, but Wemby and the Spurs made sure their impressive run ended in round two.

The Spurs are now headed to OKC for a clash with the top-seeded Thunder in the WCF, the matchup we’ve been waiting for all season long. Wemby vs Shai….top two seeds in the west….it’s going to be SPECIAL!

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander goes back-to-back, wins the 2025-26 NBA MVP

So nice, he did it twice. 😎

With an 8-0 start to these playoffs so far, Thunder fans have already been riding a pretty colossal high over the past few weeks. They continued to ride that wave on Sunday when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was announced the 2025-26 NBA MVP!

Shai becomes the first guard in a decade to win the award in consecutive seasons, and when you take a look at all he accomplished this season, it’s pretty easy to see why: 😳

Though there were a few other worthy candidates for the award (Wemby, Jokic), it felt like Shai had the award unofficially wrapped up for some time now. The only difference now is that it’s official.

Shai’s 2025-26 season was one for the books. His efficiency was historic (31.1 PTS, 7.3 AST, 55% FG, 38% 3PT) scored 20 or more points in every single game, and led his Thunder to the number one seed in the west for the third consecutive season, with Jalen Williams missing a good chunk of the season.

With his second MVP now in his bag, time will tell if he’ll be adding a second Finals MVP to his resume four weeks from now….

Congratulations, Shai! 🔥

On this Day: NBA Playoff History

May 18th, 2008: Big three Celtics defeat 23 year old LeBron, Cavs 97-92 in classic game 7

On this day 18 years ago, we were treated to one of the most memorable game 7s of the 21st century. Let’s take a look back at this incredible playoff classic between the Cavs and the Celtics!

This game and series had a little bit of everything. Between the Big three Celtics of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen (along with a young Rajon Rondo) and the greatness of a young LeBron James, there was no lack of starpower on the court. The home team had won each of the first six games of this series, and LeBron and his Cavs squad were looking to break that streak and pull off the upset against the 67-win Celtics team that assembled in the offseason prior.

This game felt like a typical grind-it-out game 7, with the two teams combining for just 31 points in the first quarter. Both squads got it going later on though, particularly LeBron and Pierce.

The two forwards put on a scoring clinic, with Pierce going for 41 points, and Bron going for 45. It was clear the Cavs were at a talent disadvantage, but when you have the best player in the series on your team, you’re always going to have a chance….

Cleveland kept it close for the entire game in front of the hostile Boston crowd, but couldn’t quite get over the hump, as Boston walked away with the five point victory, advancing to the Eastern Finals and eventually winning the NBA title just a few short weeks later.

Take a look for yourself at one of the best playoff duels in NBA history, we promise it’s worth the watch! 👀
