King James Leads the Way

We know we fought a war over this back in the day, but nearly 250 years later the USA still has a king. At least, in basketball. 👑

LeBron James remains as timeless as the Earth rotating around the sun. Despite being surrounded by superstars in their absolute prime, #ThekidfromAKRON continues to be America’s go-to man in the clutch throughout these Olympic exhibition games, something the Germans learned the hard way on Monday night.

James started the game with AUTHORITY, throwing down a vicious reverse slam on the break to open the match. That was only the beginning of what would be a highlight-filled first half for the US, as this insane one-two combo in the second quarter from Joel Embiid and Anthony Edwards threatened to blow the roof off the O2 Arena.

But, led by Daniel Theis, Dennis Schröder, and the Wagner brothers, the defending FIBA World Cup champs worked their way back into the game. The Germans used a combination of lights-out three-point shooting, plenty of forced turnovers, and tenacious work on the offensive glass to turn a nine-point halftime deficit into a narrow lead by the end of the third.

But the fourth, as you can probably guess, was all Bron. At 39 years old, the King played with the enthusiasm and energy of a bright-eyed rookie making their debut. Whether it was muscling players out of the way for boards, powering his way to the rack, or clamping up on defense, he contributed towards every facet of the game to secure a 92-88 Team USA W, including scoring five in the final 90 seconds to ice it: 🥶

Meet Your Summer League Champs!

The season hasn’t even started yet and Erik Spoelstra is already working his dark arts on the next generation of Miami Heat prospects. Despite having zero lottery picks on the roster, the Heat’s Summer League squad is leaving Vegas as undefeated champions, and with plenty to be excited about.

Going up against a fun, explosive Grizzlies unit powered by the three-headed monster of Jake LaRavia, GG Jackson, and Scottie Pippen Jr (who combined for 89 points) the Heat earned this W the hard way, coming back from down nine in the 4th to send it to OT before former Arizona Wildcat Pelle Larson buried the 120-118 game-winner with just ten seconds to go:

Alongside Larson, 15th overall pick Kel’el Ware and recent signing Josh Christopher led the way for Miami, with the latter winning the SL equivalent of Finals MVP behind a dominant two-way performance. Could this group be the injection of young talent the Heat need to keep their contention window open? 🤔

Free Agency Update

Spencer Dinwiddie returns to Dallas 🐴

Just a year and a half after being traded to Brooklyn as part of the Kyrie Irving deal, Spencer Dinwiddie is back in Dallas! Although his role will probably be more limited this time, the former second round pick was integral to the Mavs’ 2022 WCF run. Plus, he has plenty of experience playing alongside Luka Doncic

Reggie Jackson heads to Philly 🔔

Just a week after losing Cam Payne in free agency to their conference rivals over in Milwaukee, the Sixers are getting an immediate replacement in Reggie Jackson. With plenty of playoff experience and a nice scoring pop off the bench, Jackson will (hopefully) recapture the chemistry he had with Paul George back in LA during their 2021 playoff run.
