🏀 With his LEFT HAND?
Plus, this Pelican is clamping everyone.
Yesterday was Selection Sunday, so if you weren’t paying much attention to the NBA, that’s alright. Especially because that means you’re more likely to read today’s newsletter…
Today’s Lineup
🔥 Sunday’s Slate
No Giannis? Just call Bobby. And how did Kyrie do that?
🎁 Weekend Wrap-Up
A strange finish in LA, and Houston is getting HOT!

Not. On. Herb.
Sunday’s Slate
Kyrie hits absurd buzzer-beater, Mavs beat Nuggets 107-105
Some moments defy description, so we’ll just set the scene for this one. After a thrilling back-and-forth game (including a Jamal Murray go-ahead three-pointer and a Luka Doncic answer), Dallas (39-29) had the ball with three seconds left in the tied game. Then…
KYRIE CALLS GAME 🔥🔥
WOW.

Bam’s buzzer-beater propels Miami over Detroit 104-101
A Bam game-winning three? Why not! The Miami (37-30) center heaved a prayer at the buzzer and it was answered, as the Heat stunned the Pistons (12-55) at the last second. Duncan Robinson led the way for Miami with 30 points.
Bam called game. 💥

Wemby sets another record, Spurs beat Nets 122-115 in OT
Is anyone actually checking these records anymore? Or are we just assuming Victor Wembanyama is breaking a record every night? This man is truly unprecedented.
Wemby put together a HISTORIC performance in the Spurs overtime win against the Nets! 👽
33 PTS | 15 REB | 7 AST | 7 BLK | 14-26 FG
Victor Wembanyama is the first player in NBA history with 30+ points, 15+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 5+ blocks while shooting 50% FG in a game 📈

Elsewhere around the association…
Giannis missed Sunday’s game, but luckily he transferred his powers to Bobby Portis before tip-off. Bobby scored 31 points as Milwaukee (44-24) held off Phoenix (39-29) late. And Damian Lillard made some history of his own!
The Magic, winners of 11 of their last 14, stayed hot with a comfortable 111-96 win over Toronto. Paolo Banchero scored an efficient 29 in the W.
Boston didn’t get the memo that league-wide scoring is down, posting 81 points in the first half and easily beating Washington 130-104.
De’Andre Hunter continued his strong stretch of play, scoring 20 to help Atlanta cruise past the Clippers 110-93.

Weekend Wrap-Up
Sometimes NBA games power to the finish line, sometimes they crawl. Warriors-Lakers on Saturday was a crawl. Golden State pulled out a (mostly exciting) 128-121 win.
us watching the end of Lakers vs. Warriors
Houston is getting hot. Very hot. The Rockets have won seven of eight after stomping Cleveland 117-103 on Saturday, and they’re starting to lurk for that last play-in spot. Houston is just 3.5 games behind the Lakers and Warriors right now…
The Houston #Rockets are 7-1 in March.
They have the most wins in the NBA this month 📈

🧠 Daily Trivia 🧠
Which of these players is NOT currently top five in blocks per game? |
Unsung Heroes: Herb Jones
Herb Jones has always been known as a very good defender, and this year he—and the Pelicans as a whole—have elevated to new heights. The national media is (rightfully so) giving attention to Jones, who’s leading the sixth-ranked Pelicans defense by matching up with opposing teams’ stars and constantly making their lives difficult. If New Orleans wants to make some noise in the postseason, it will start on the defensive end with Herb.
We’ll be honest. This isn’t normal:

💀 Thanasis… the shooting coach?
Numbers don’t lie!
🙏 High praise from Klay.
Hear what he said about a young teammate.
🤯 That’s a good group…
Jalen Brunson is on a true tear.
What We’re Enjoying
A24 in IMAX: That’s right—three of A24’s most acclaimed movies are making the theater rounds in IMAX for the first time. Ex Machina, Hereditary, and Uncut Gems will all be shown in IMAX over the next few months. We highly recommend each movie if you haven’t seen them—or even if you have!
Signing Off!
And that’s our time! Spring is just around the corner, which means March Madness and the NBA playoffs are just around the corner, too. There’s tons to look forward to in the basketball world, folks. Buckle up!
