Chris Paul returns to L.A., signs one-year veteran deal with Clippers

The summer of point guard reunions continues!

Last week, we saw Damian Lillard return to the Blazers. On Monday morning, we received the news that Chris Paul is returning to the Clippers. CP3 is heading back to the franchise where he spent a good chunk of his prime, and he’s signing for the veteran’s minimum at one-year, $3.6 million, per Shams.

The 40-year-old point guard has made it very clear throughout his entire career that winning a title has been his top priority. And with Paul announcing a few weeks back that this upcoming season will most likely be his last, he’s giving himself one final chance at a long-coveted NBA championship in the city he called home for six years.

And with the signings of Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez, along with the acquisition of John Collins earlier this offseason via trade, the Clips are loading up to contend and give CP3 one last crack at a ring. 😁

The homecoming to Los Angeles isn’t the only reunion for the Point God. Paul gets to run it back with former Rockets teammate James Harden, who spent two seasons in the backcourt with him. Harden and Paul were nearly on the cusp of an NBA Finals appearance in 2018 before an untimely hamstring injury knocked CP3 out of the remainder of the Western Conference Finals.

Will this go-around with The Beard be the one to put Chris Paul and the rest of the Clippers over the hump? 🤔

Jonas Valanciunas speaks out amid contract dispute, commits to Nuggets for upcoming season

After several weeks of uncertainty, the Nuggets officially have their back-up five-man and can let out a major sigh of relief. 😅

Over the past few seasons, one of the biggest criticisms of Denver’s roster construction was their lack of a backup center to give three-time MVP Nikola Jokić some additional rest throughout the course of the fatiguing 82 game season. The franchise's newly appointed front office appeared to have solved that issue by acquiring veteran big man Jonas Valanciunas in a trade with the Kings earlier this month, but the 15-year Lithuanian vet was extremely enticed by an offer from Greek EuroLeague club Panathinaikos to play overseas and leave the NBA entirely.

It was unclear if the Nuggets were going to honor his wish and forego the remainder of his contract, but with several reports of the team stating they’re going to stand their ground and not let Big Val out of his deal, there was a level of uncertainty regarding Jonas’ morale with the decision.

He put alllll of that uncertainty to rest with this quote. Big Val seems ready to win big in Denver! ⬇️

Let’s take a trip back to the ‘90s to show some love to one of the most underrated hoopers in NBA history—Glen Rice! 😎

Playing in an era that was not nearly as three-point-heavy as today’s game, Glen Rice was simply ahead of his time. Drafted fourth overall by the Miami Heat in 1989, Rice became Miami’s first real bucket-getter, as the franchise was only in its second year of existence after being part of the NBA’s 1988 expansion.

It didn’t take long for number 41 to make a name for himself in the league. In 1991-92, just his third season, he averaged 22.3 points per game on 39% from beyond the arc on five attempts per night. In 1992, not many guys were shooting five three-pointers a game. In fact, Rice was second in the league that season in total three-point attempts, only trailing Houston’s Vernon Maxwell.

Although his career got started in Miami, most remember him as a Charlotte Hornet. That’s because the peak of his prime came in Charlotte, including the 1996-97 season when he averaged 26.8 points per game on a BLISTERING 47% from three on almost six attempts per game. His stellar performance that year earned him an All-NBA Second Team nod and the 1997 All-Star Game MVP. 🏆

Rice always put his incredible shooting on display during All-Star Weekend. Take a minute to check out his fluid jumpshot during the 1995 Three-Point Shootout:
