šŸ‘» Fridayā€™s Freaky Finishes šŸ‘»

Now that is how you kick off a Hallo-weekend of hoops. Good gracious.

Where do we start? Wemby is always a safe call. He was a little erratic and still finished with 21/12/3/3 to help San Antonio beat Houston. Heā€™s truly as good as we thought heā€™d be. Outrageous.

Meanwhile, we had Game Winners Galore. Alex Caruso hit one as Chicago beat Toronto, Jordan ClarksonĀ hit one for Utah against the Clips, and Luka Doncic was basically creating new types of shots to hit in the fourth quarter against Brooklyn, the last one being a dagger. He finished with 49 PTS, 10 REB, 7 ASTā€¦and zero turnovers. He might be a witch. WHAT IS THIS?

šŸ§Ÿ Saturdayā€™s Spooky Scenes šŸ§Ÿ

People are sayingā€¦Detroit Basketball. The Pistons had a dunk party against Chicago on Saturday, rendering Zach LaVineā€™s 51-piece fruitless in a loss. Jalen Duren = very good.

Important note: if youā€™re sitting courtside and your team is playing the Pacersā€¦donā€™t say whatever this fan said. Because Tyrese Haliburton will, apparently, do this.

Also, the Naz Reid Show (25 PTS, 8 REB) resumed broadcasting in Minnesota. Naz Reid.

šŸ§Ÿ Sundayā€™s Ghostly Games šŸ§Ÿ

Nuggets fire on all cylinders, beat Thunder 128-95 in Sunday matinee

You canā€™t have a championship hangover if you immediately go race horses after winning one. In other words, the Nuggets (3-0) are still good. Nikola Jokic did Nikola Jokic things, while Peyton Watson (17 PTS) continued his extremely impressive start to his sophomore campaign. Chet Holmgren (19 PTS) looked good for OKC on a day when not a lot of things went right.

Hawks use balanced scoring effort to beat Bucks, 127-110

One team in this game had eight double-figure scorers. One team had four double-figure scorers. Weā€™re not mathematicians here, but...more players scoring more points does seem like a recipe for success. Trae Young led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds (and some looooong threes), and Atlanta (1-2) got 51 bench points, too. Milwaukee (1-1) will not go 82-0.

Sixers get big games from Maxey and Embiid, beat Portland 126-98

The Tyrese Maxey (26 PTS, 10 REB) starting point guard era is off to a roaring start in Philadelphia (2-1). The Joel Embiid (35/15/7/6 BLK) Being Really Good Era continues, as well. Portland (0-3) got 20 from Shaedon Sharpe, who is going to put up some eyebrow-raising individual numbers this season.

Warriors get hot from deep, down Rockets 106-95

When Steph Curry enters playground mode, just call it a night. Golden State (2-1) hit 18 threes to Houstonā€™s nine and pulled away late. Amen Thompson did do this, though, so itā€™s not all bad for Houston (0-3) fans.

Clippers are rude to Wemby for some reason, beat Spurs 123-83

We donā€™t wanna say it. But we will. IF THE CLIPPERS (2-1) CAN STAY HEALTHYā€¦they can make a deep playoff run. LA trounced the Spurs (1-2) from the opening tip, limiting Victor Wembanyama to 11 points and forcing 25 San Antonio turnovers. They still can be great, and games like this remind us why. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 21 points and is apparently still increasing his range in Year 13.

Fox shows toughness, Huerter is clutch as Kings beat Lakers 132-127

Deā€™Aaron is not just a Fox, he is also a DAWG. After rolling his ankle pretty badly in the fourth quarter Sunday night against Los Angeles (1-2) he came back into the game and hit some huge shots, finishing with 37 points and eight assists. In OT though, the moment belonged to Malik MonkĀ and Kevin Hurter, who both hit massive threes to propel Sacramento (2-1). Beam stays lit.

šŸ¦‡ (Early) Unsung Heroes: Cole Anthony šŸ¦‡

Yes, weā€™re one week into the regular season. Yes, weā€™re starting Unsung Heroes anyway. Sorry, weā€™re excited! Magic guard Cole Anthony has gotten somewhat lost in the metaphorical shuffle of Orlandoā€™s rebuild, but after an extremely strong finish to last season (16 PTS, over 40% from 3PT in March and April) heā€™s picked up right where he left off this season.

In two games, Anthony has scored 38 points and shot 14-27 from the field. Heā€™s playing with confidence and is helping Orlando look like a competitive team a few years earlier than many people expected.
