Weekend Wrap-Up

Marvelous Maxey leads 76ers over Pacers 118-114 in Indiana

When the news dropped that Joel Embiid and Paul George would miss the start of the Sixers’ season, many viewed it as a white flag for the start of the year. But those people forgot about Tyrese Maxey (45 PTS, 4 AST, 4 REB).

In Philly’s third game of the year, ‘Rese led his guys to a crazy OT win over Indiana with a magnificent 45-point performance. New haircut, new haircut, same old Maxey!

Tatum, Celtics continue streak with 124-118 win over Detroit

Jayson Tatum has heard the disrespect, and he’s ready to give it back.

After all the noise that was produced following his Team USA benching, Tatum has come out firing to start the season. He’s now dropped 37 PTS twice in Boston’s first three games, including in a narrow win over Detroit on Saturday that included some clutch defense from Derrick White (17 PTS, 6 REB, 3 BLK). If JT keeps playing like this, the defending champs will be difficult to dethrone…

Elsewhere around the NBA…

  • The Thunder have delivered on all of their preseason hype, reeling off three straight wins to start the year. From a Chet Holmgren masterclass to start the year to solid performances from Jalen Williams and SGA to their latest 20+ point win over Atlanta, OKC is blooming just like we all expected.

  • In Saturday’s battle of Western Conference young guns, Victor Wembanyama out-dueled Jalen Green to lead the Spurs to a three-point victory over Houston as both players dropped 29 PTS.

  • The Blazers are coming off a rough season, but if they can put together efforts like Sunday’s on a consistent basis, this year could be different. Rip City downed New Orleans 125-103 in a game that saw all five Portland starters score in double figures, led by a combined 55 from Jerami Grant (28 PTS, 5 REB) and Anfernee Simons (27 PTS, 6 AST).

Stock Market

Welcome to the first edition of the Enjoy Basketball Stock Market! In this segment, we’ll periodically break down the teams, players, and big hoops concepts on the rise throughout the NBA regular season.

Though it’s impossible to tell who will define the season after a few games, there’ve been plenty of storylines to Enjoy so far. Let’s talk about it!

🏀 🏀 🏀

Stormin’ Norman 📈

Norman Powell doesn’t just have one of the best nicknames in the NBA—he’s got the skills to match it. It was Powell who came out on top in a battle against three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, scoring 37 PTS to lead the Clippers to a win over Denver.

LeBron’s Longevity 📈

Saturday night was a win for 39-year-olds everywhere. The longevity of LeBron James seems to be a yearly conversation topic, but it’s still important to give the King his flowers for games like the one he just had against the Kings, where he dropped 32 PTS, 14 REB, and 10 AST. LeBron took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points over a three-minute stretch and making history the way he often does. Will his reign ever end?

Cleveland’s Offense 📈

New Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson has his guys firing on all cylinders to start the year with a fiery 3-0 start. And while Cleveland has played well overall, it’s been their offense that wins games and the Cavs have had plenty. With a team average of 128 PPG, two games scoring 135+ already, and three different leading scorers, Cleveland is leaving their opponents in the dust night in and night out (see their 20-point average margin of victory.)
