Maxey scores seven in 17 seconds, Sixers win 112-106 to save season and force Game 6
There were 28.2 seconds remaining in this game. MSG was absolutely rocking. Deuce McBride had buried a dagger to put the Knicks up 6 and Jalen Brunson was putting the finishing touches on yet another Herculean offensive effort to send New York back to the second round. Life was good in the Big Apple.
But, in a series as crazy as this one, it was never going to be that easy. After the Knicks had their iconic moment in Game 2, it was Tyrese Maxey who firmly etched his name into Philly hoops folklore. First came an off-balance four-point play—then, an audacious logo bomb to complete the impossible and send the game to OT. And despite JB doing everything he could in overtime to secure the W, the Sixers hung on.

Cavs beat Magic 104-103, take 3-2 lead behind Mobley’s last-second swat
After getting the doors blown off of them twice in Orlando, it took real guts for the Cavs to regroup without Jarrett Allen and grind out a down-to-the-wire W in Cleveland like this. As we’ve seen multiple time this series already, a gritty defensive duel exploded to life in the fourth quarter, with Donovan Mitchell and Paolo Banchero trading blows down the stretch and finishing with 14 and 16 in the last frame, respectively.
But it was Evan Mobley who ended up making the biggest impact in the closing minutes, forcing Banchero into multiple tough misses before using his excellent recovery skills to shut the door on Franz Wagner in the closing seconds. Clamp city! 🔒

Short-handed Bucks make short work of Pacers, win 115-92 to extend series
No Dame, no Giannis, and reeling off the back of three straight losses—it seemed like the Bucks’ first season with a true superstar duo was a night away from ending in disaster.
Instead, Patrick Beverley, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis put on a performance so dominating we’re wondering if they should form their own big three. The trio controlled the game with ease down the stretch, helping Milwaukee outscore the Pacers by 31 over the final three quarters to take home a commanding W.
Bobby and Khris were the go-to guys on offense (29 points apiece) but this game truly had PatBev’s hands all over it. From crisp playmaking to downright diabolical defense, his insane all-around hustle might just spark a Bucks comeback… 👀

Murray’s dagger leads Nuggets to 108-106 W, sends LeBron and LAL packing
These Lakers-Nuggets games feel scripted at this point, don’t they? I mean, what can we say that hasn’t been said before? Yes, the Lakers jumped out to an early lead. Yes, LeBron James was spectacular all night. And yes, Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets stormed back to set the stage for more late-game heroics from #27.
At this point, Jamal Murray is somehow more reliable in the playoffs than the regular season. With the mile-high lights at their brightest, Murray canned five threes, slammed home a thundering dunk on LeBron, and buried the series-ending dagger over the outstretched arm of Austin Reaves.
Next up, the showdown we’ve all been waiting for. The Timberwolves are fresh off an absolute dismantling of the Suns’ southwestern superteam, but can Anthony Edwards and Minnesota’s league-best defense stand strong against Nikola and the Nuggets? We don’t know the answer, but either way it’s about to be a MOVIE. 🎥🍿

White terrorizes Heat, Celtics take 3-1 lead with 102-88 W
On a night where neither Jayson Tatum nor Jaylen Brown scored more than 20 and Kristaps Porzingis went down with a calf strain early in the first half, you’d expect this to be a classic Eric Spoelstra “master of the dark arts” game where Miami hits, like, 29 threes and pulls a win out of nowhere.
Instead, Derrick White almost hit more threes than the entire Heat roster by himself to lead Boston to the win. The Celtics’ elite role player provided the only sense of stable offense in a game that was desperately lacking it. What other guard is dropping three blocks to go along with a career-high 38 points? What a beast. 💪
After his career night, Derrick White was asked what advice he has for young hoopers:
“Believe in yourself, never stop working, and when you’re on this court, you have to be the hardest working player on the court.”

OKC completes sweep of Pelicans behind strong 4th quarter in 97-89 win
You hate to ever say an outcome in the playoffs was expected, but the Pelicans were always going to be in a brutal spot without Zion Williamson. Still, props to New Orleans for keeping Game 4 close for 40+ minutes behind some much-needed bench buckets from Naji Marshall and an all-around great team effort at limiting OKC’s perimeter game.
But it was the Thunder’s defense who clamped down hardest when it mattered most, holding the Pelicans scoreless over a three-minute stretch late in the fourth quarter as Jalen Williams dropped eight straight points to help OKC run away with the win. Now, SGA and company get a nice little break as they await the winner of Mavs-Clippers.

Could LeBron leave LA?
It took less than 12 hours from the Lakers’ season-ending loss for Brian Windhorst to deliver what might turn out to be the news of the offseason…
According to Windhorst, James is likely to opt out of his contract in LA and enter free agency for the first time since 2018. However, other sources continue to report that the Lakers are prepared to draft Bronny James so that LeBron can stay and play with his son.
How do you think this is gonna go down?

Your 2023-24 Executive of the Year is… Brad Stevens!
From college coach to NBA coach to front office wizard, it seems like Brad Stevens has a way of turning everything he touches into gold. And this season might just be his magnum opus.
Trading for former All-Stars Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis was a savvy move that only added onto years of excellent roster management. And a 64-win season and a serious chance at a title? Not a bad result. Congrats on the hardware, Brad!

That’s all for today! Something to remember (especially during playoff time) is to not hold onto the things you can’t control. At the end of the day, we’re surrounded by situations that are out of our hands—that includes brutal playoff losses. You’ll save yourself a lifetime of stress by saving your focus for the things you can actually change.
