🏀 Anthony Davis, have a night.
Plus, this 3X All-Star became a politician?
It’s here. Today is the day. Stay tuned to our socials for a BIG announcement at 12:15pm ET that will disrupt sports media as we know it…
Today’s Lineup
🏀 Last Night’s Action
The Lakers hold on in a nail-biter, NYK continues their streak, and more.

The Grizzlies guard is set to have season-ending surgery.

Last Night’s Action
Lakers outlast Raptors in nail-biter 133-132
The Raptors put up one heck of a fight down the stretch with Pascal Siakam (25 PTS) hitting tough buckets and Scottie Barnes (26 PTS) getting to the rim at will, but Toronto came up short in this one after a game-tying Barnes triple was called off by a RJ Barrett (23 PTS) moving screen call. Anthony Davis (season-high 41 PTS) was dominant inside, assisted by some LeBron (22 PTS, 12 AST) entry passes that would make your high school coach proud. Check it out: ⬇️

Timberwolves cruise past Magic 113-92
This T-Wolves team is legit—not because they steamrolled a solid Orlando squad, but because they looked elite despite getting very little from Anthony Edwards. KAT (28 PTS) was the best scorer on the court last night, and Minnesota’s #1 ranked defense made the Magic look like Muggles. 🧙♂️

Knicks blitz Trail Blazers 112-84, move to 5-0 with OG Anunoby
It’s amazing to be a Knicks fan right now. They had Ben Stiller live tweeting their game last night, OG Anunoby posting the highest ever cumulative +/- through five games with a new team, and the squad remaining undefeated in 2024 in an early blowout against Portland.

Kings rally to beat short-handed Pistons 131-110
Without Cade Cunningham the Pistons were GREAT… for a quarter. Detroit led 47-29 at one point, but then the world turned right-side up again as Domantas Sabonis posted a 37-point triple-double and Keegan Murray reminded us he can score in bunches with incredible efficiency.

Grizzlies upset Mavericks on the road 120-103
Faced with the bad news about Ja Morant, the Grizzlies out-hustled Dallas in every factor of this game and it made all the difference. Led by Desmond Bane (32 PTS), Memphis clogged up the iso-heavy Dallas offense for the win!
Monday Night Notes
Giannis called on everyone in the Bucks organization—even the jersey washers—to do better. Instead, they lost to the Jazz 132-116 and even got memed by Utah’s equipment manager 💀
The Pacers outlasted the Celtics 133-131 in a game that featured a controversial call, a Jaylen Brown 40-piece, and a scary injury for Tyrese Haliburton (don’t worry, he’s okay).
In a battle of Big Threes, the Clippers broke away from the Suns to win 138-111. James Harden cheffed up 19 points and 10 assists for LA, while the Suns (outside of Kevin Durant and his 30 points) looked out of sync.
In a game where SGA (32 PTS) and Chet Holmgren (31 PTS) blew us away with their fluidity and efficiency, OKC took care of business against the Wizards 136-128.
A duel between two under-the-radar scoring guards went to OT as the Bulls and Coby White (27 PTS) outlasted the Hornets and Terry Rozier (39 PTS) 119-112.
Big games from Tyler Herro (28 points) and Bam Adebayo (22 PTS, 12 AST) gave the Heat to a seven-point win over the Rockets, who were led by Fred VanVleet (32 PTS, 7 AST, 5 REB).

Ja Morant out for season
Late Monday night, Woj delivered the news that Ja Morant will have season-ending surgery to repair his torn labrum. 😔
Memphis was only 6-19 before their star PG came back from suspension in December, but they had been looking a lot better with him back on the court. If he would have been there for the whole season, we might be seeing the Grizzlies near the top of the West for the third straight year—instead, Memphis is now solidly in the running for a high first-round draft pick. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Ja! 🙏
NBA History Spotlight
Today, we’re traversing NBA history to talk about an oft-forgotten 90s hooper that dribbled his way from the All-Star Game to the corridors of political power.
This is the story of Kevin Johnson.
After playing his college ball at Cal, Johnson took the league by storm and won the 1988-89 Most Improved Award as a second-year player. After Phoenix traded for Charles Barkley in ‘92, the Suns won 62 games with KJ as a major scoring option and made the NBA Finals… where they came up short (like everyone did) to Jordan’s Bulls.
Still, Johnson’s ability to attack the rim and finish over bigger defenders paired with his gifted playmaking made him a certified gem of the early 90s. From 1989-1994, Johnson averaged 20 points and 10 assists per game en route to 3 All-Star nods. ⭐️
Johnson is sometimes forgotten in NBA history due to the length of his career—he hung ‘em up at just 32 years old. But perhaps the most impressive thing in KJ’s life happened post-retirement. In 2008, he became the first African American mayor of Sacramento, the city where he was born and raised!
So yeah. Kevin Johnson is incredible. He exemplifies an incredible balance between athletic brilliance and sense of civic duty that makes us want to be better. Hats off to KJ! 👏
