🔥 Our 3 Favorite City Edition Jerseys
The NBA 2024-25 City Edition jerseys leaked on social media Friday, and the results were definitely mixed. We understand it's hard to reinvent several new designs year after year, so we still wanted to celebrate our three favorites!
First up are the Detroit Pistons. We’re really vibing with the cream tone and orange highlights, and the font is a fresh new approach. The numbers 89 and 90 subtly line the orange sides in reference to Detroit’s back-to-back championships in those years. The logo on the bottom also reads “Back 2 Back” and also pays tribute to their Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly through his initials and signature down below 🐐
Next are the Memphis Grizzlies. People are often put off when teams release jerseys with completely different color ways from their traditional colors, but we love a good change of pace. This bright red really pops, and the Memphis font is fun, albeit a bit hard to read. We can’t wait to see Ja Morant takeoff in these threads 🔥
Lastly, we’re enjoying these Philadelphia 76ers jerseys. They’re similar to Philly’s 2021-22 City Editions, but they swap out the blue base for a clean white. They are simultaneously simple while also having a long going on along the sides, and the smooth font honors The Spectrum, the franchise’s home arena from 1967-1996 ⌛️
🏀 The Power of Basketball
"The Power of Basketball," an upcoming collection of essays from the NBA’s Social Justice Coalition, highlights the league's commitment to social advocacy since its formation in 2020. Comprised of players, team governors, and league officials, the Coalition has focused on criminal justice reform, voting rights, and community safety. Between 2021 and 2024, it publicly supported 27 legislative bills, with 18 advancing to a full vote and nine becoming law 📝
The book features contributions from notable figures, including players C.J. McCollum, Malcolm Brogdon, and Larry Nance, Jr., along with coaches like Doc Rivers and governors such as Steve Ballmer. Former WNBA guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt also lends her voice with the essay "The Time is Now." This diverse roster reflects the Coalition's mission to unite various perspectives for meaningful change. We’re particularly looking forward to reading Brogdon’s poignant tribute to his grandfather, a civil rights leader, which underscores the legacy of perseverance and activism that the Coalition aims to continue 💪
🇬🇷 Hoops Game at a Historic Location
Over in Greece, EuroLeague champions Panathinaikos played a match in a truly historic atmosphere. The Greek club played at Kalimarmaro Stadium, the location of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The arena was constructed on the site of an old racehorse track in 144 AD and remains the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble 🏛️
In a nighttime battle at the open-air stadium, Panathinaikos played in front of over 40,000 fans—an ASTRONOMICAL number. For context, less than 20,000 Knicks fans can fit inside Madison Square Garden. And these weren’t your average supporters; every last one of them were cheering like crazy. International sporting fandom is just on another level 🔥
The game was a part of the sixth annual Pavlos Giannakopoulos tournament, an event honoring the man who ran the club from 1987 to 2012, increased funding for the team, and guided the club to six EuroLeague championships 🏆 Though the Greek club lost 75-64 against Partizan Belgrade, it was a great way to celebrate the game we love in a historic venue—one they hadn’t played in since 1968!
