Out of Bounds, Vol. 74

The best kicks from opening night.

Our favorite teams are back. Tunnel fits are back. And we are SO back.

Just how back are we? See a young and spry Myles Turner before evading a decade of trade deadline rumours. And yes, that is Monta Ellis on the bench

👟 The Best Opening Night Kicks

We’re SO grateful to have NBA hoops back for the competition, highlights and STYLE.

Opening night was ring night in Oklahoma City, and the MVP’s shoes matched his new championship ring. Check out Shai’s golden pair for the first game of the year:

In Cooper Flagg’s first ever appearance, the #1 pick rocked some crisp New Balance’s. We’re unsure if he’s about to drop 18/8/5 on us or mow the lawn, but regardless its clean AF.

The Ja 3’s may be our favorite version of the line yet. And this colorway—are you kidding?? We’re suckers for when the shoes match the jersey, and these pair with the teal Memphis uniforms perfectly.

Lastly, Wemby wore these orange “Haunted Heights” player editions, though we think he should rock them again for Halloween. Speaking of which, Vic has wore two fire Halloween costumes the past two years, but tragically the 10-foot tall alien didn’t wear a tunnel costume this year because the Spurs didn’t play on the 31st 💔

👀 Timberwolves Taking Us Back to the 90s

This season’s vibes are dripping with 90s nostalgia. We’ve got the old NBA on NBC music. We’ve got Michael Jordan back on TV. And we have the Minnesota Timberwolves rocking their Black Tree jerseys.

The wolves are wearing the threads from the KG era along with a classic edition court designed as a replica of the one on which the wolves had the longest stretch of relative success in franchise history. Its bringing Minnesota fan’s back to a past era while enjoying new success:

KG. Sprewell. Cassell. Our black trees are the Empire Strikes Back of uniforms. When I see that jersey, I feel the fire in KG’s eyes. I feel the adrenaline of eight straight postseason appearances. That same energy lives on in Ant, Julius, Rudy, Naz and the rest of our guys now, so it's only fitting that they rock our black trees.

Ausar Pens a Tribute to Detroit and Basketball

Ausar Thompson is an identical twin. His twin is a rising star for Houson. His twin is arguably the favorite for Most Improved Player. And his twin was drafted one pick ahead of him in 2023. And yet, Ausar Thompson is one of one.

The Thompson twin wrote an article for The Player’s Tribune which chronicled his introduction to the NBA and acclimation to the city of Detroit. His rookie year was marred by an infamous 28-game losing streak.

He begins by confronting the harsh reality of his rookie season: a year defined by historic losing streaks and frustration despite effort. Thompson admits he entered the league with confidence and high expectations, only to find himself learning what hard work truly means in the pros.

He wrote that veteran presences like Tobias Harris brought accountability, structure, and a playoff-level mentality that reshaped how the young core carried themselves. Thompson mused about connecting deeply with Detroit’s identity: a city defined by grit, defense, and perseverance.

Now in his 3rd year, Thompson speaks with quiet confidence about what’s next. He aims for a season of consistency, simplicity, and belief in the process. He emphasizes that Detroit isn’t just rebuilding, but reestablishing a culture rooted in toughness and pride.

So say it with us: DEEEETROIT BASKETBALLLLL!
